Guy Pearce stars as Peter Weyland in this viral video tie-in to Prometheus, giving the unwashed masses who aren't familiar with their mythology a bit of a background as to why the film has the name it does. Weyland is, of course, one half of the uber-conglomerate company Weyland-Yutani that dominates the world of the Alien universe. I'm not going to say anything more about the video because I'm sure you'll want to watch it for yourself, but I will say that damn, that's a big TED talk.

I hope this is in the movie because that was phenomenal. I still don't get exactly what the Greek Titan Prometheus has to do with the film but I'm assuming we'll learn in due time.

Maybe. It could be like "Brazil", the name is just vaguely tied to the seed of the movie's premise. In Brazil's case, it had to do with a scene in Brazil that was actually cut from the film but still. In this case, the fake Ted talk could very well be the only mention. The rest is probably just tied to the larger idea of good intentions leading to something tragic.
It was overseen by Ridley Scott, written by Damon Lindelof and directed by Luke Scott accordingly to the TED page: http://blog.ted.com/TED2023/, there's a pretty great interview with Lindelof to go with it: http://blog.ted.com/2012/02/28/writing-a-tedtalk-from-the-future-q-a-with-damon-lindelof/.
They've said it's not going to appear in the film, it's part of the viral campaign.
chills.
Well, I guess that answers the whole 'Alien movie, or not?' question.
Damn, I'm very excited now.
More ads like this, please!
Brilliant. I have high hopes for the film and the rest of the viral marketing they'll do.
Fuck, that's slick.
@CrimsonAvenger: My guess is, like Prometheus, humans are going to be punished. For what exactly? I think we will learn more in the movie. Maybe its the creation of artificial life or something. Either way I am so pumped for this movie.
I'm now even more excited for this movie. Didn't know that that was really possible, but it turns out, it is.
Awesome! Even if he's diabolical, that's still another great TED talk. I'm confused though, I thought they said specifically that Prometheus was not tied to the Aliens Universs?
The positive reactions to this surprise me. I like Pearce, but I thought he was terrible here. I don't think he pulls off ruthless industrialist at all.
Also I don't like to see this part of the Alien universe portrayed in such detail. In the Alien films the company was something lurking in the background, mostly represented onscreen only by a few individuals, trying to come close to Ripley (and what she could give them). I love the atmosphere in those films. I should be glad Ridley Scott is back doing an Alien related film, but neither the trailer, nor this video, have made me excited (quite the contrary). I hope to be pleasantly surprised.
Why isn't Guy Pearce in every movie being made? Make it happen!
I really don't know why, but the fact that TED exists in 2023 bums me out.
This is pretty fantastic. Opens up the Alien universe into something much more interesting than just creepy monsters. Ridley has had a long time to think about where he wants to go, and I can't wait to take the ride. And for a piece of viral marketing, Guy Pearce is nailing it.
Tried looking for the new poster that shows an x-ray of a man's skull with xenomorph eyes and teeth. So excited for this!
I wish I could have experienced this as a truly viral type video. That seems to be difficult to do now though.
This video being used as a way to link Prometheus and the Alien universe gives me some MAAAAAAAAAAJOR nerd chubs in my pants.
