Guy Pearce stars as Peter Weyland in this viral video tie-in to Prometheus, giving the unwashed masses who aren't familiar with their mythology a bit of a background as to why the film has the name it does. Weyland is, of course, one half of the uber-conglomerate company Weyland-Yutani that dominates the world of the Alien universe. I'm not going to say anything more about the video because I'm sure you'll want to watch it for yourself, but I will say that damn, that's a big TED talk.

@Mr_skeleton: Wouldn't that be a good thing?
He sounds exactly like James Mason in this video, which is incredibly great both as a regular video, viral promotion and movie advertisement.
Guys...I'm HARD right now.
Wondering if that bit.ly address at about 0:51-0:53 is anything. I couldn't completely make it out.
Anyone else think it's weird to include the advancement in digital age into the Alien universe?
In Aliens they were bypassing doors by hooking them up with wires.
@Katanalauncher: It does seem a little strange but I'd have to think that there will always be places and ships that don't have access to the best of the best. I mean, when was the last time you saw a really nice tow truck? That's essentially what they had in the first Alien.
Nothing short of spectacular. Cannot wait to see the connection with Yutoni.
Can't wait. Too bad he's not trying to tie Blade Runner into the same universe, I think the two would mesh perfectly together. Still, Prometheus is my number one anticipated movie this year.
This is amazing. Easily the best piece of viral advertising for a film I've ever seen, imo. Not only was it captivating, it set the tone for the movie perfectly, drew in new audiences with the TED affiliation, and gave a lesson in cinematography that most big budget directors nowadays would do well to pay mind.
I... I think I'm going to cry.
I haven't seen this yet, but I can tell... THIS IS AMAZING! I hear he has a very very short cameo, and this may just be it.
Edit: Yeah, that was cool. I love when they try to immerse you into their fiction, especially the Alien franchise. There's a lot to be excited about, it's just too bad Ridley Scott keeps saying that it's not the same universe, when fans can tell it is. Guy Pearce is really going for the sci-fi's this year huh?
The more Prometheus anything, the better.
But I'm curious when they decided to make giant gun-shaped spaceships.
By the way, to those wondering what Prometheus has to do with the film, while I do believe it probably has to do with more than one thing (like the theme), it's also the ship they're on in the film, like the Nostromo or Sulaco. Or at least, I think that's what I read recently.
Here's a recent quote from Ridley Scott that bothers me, more so because I feel he's lying, rather than the fact he says it's not related, though I hope it is a lie:
"The Prometheus is owned by an entrepreneur called Peter Weyland, and is played by Guy Pearce. That's the connection between the two films, and nothing more. Prometheus is a new film, a new world, and is full of new ideas. And of course new monsters as well."

Well at least there'll be monsters.
Awesome. This movie can't get here fast enough.
There were scenes cut from the film but they were not specific to the premise. The name of the film is the song on the tape in the tortue chamber scene, " Aquarela do Brasil " sung by Geoff Muldaur. It's played at various times throughout the movie to eventually tie our consciousness back to that torture chamber (Did he he ever leave it? Is Brazil only his mind?) and also to highlight the struggle, glory, fun and inanity of various scenes and images in the movie. It also ties in closely with the 40's styling of the scenery and costuming. Gilliam has a bit of thing for that era because he grew up in it, almost all of his movies reference it in a variety of ways and it's the same for the many of the Pythons' collective works.
In that Ted Talk 2023 scene, it's pretty clear he sees himself as Prometheus and wants to push forward the evolution of humanity (it's been theorised multiple times that the Aliens aren't Extraterrestrial at all, but rather things which were created by Weyland and then pushed into human colonies multiple times to see what would happen, a sort of accelerated Darwinian experiment and even Alien : Resurrection explains this in some ways with its genetic re birthing of Ripley and The Alien). You're probably right about the tragic context aspect as he has all of the aspects one associates with that, pride, defying the gods, arrogance and a quest to go on.
So I guess the movie takes place before Weyland becomes Weyland-Yutani? Interesante...

This one?
Why not Lance Henriksen? Guy Pearce is a fine actor, but come on.
