Hayden Christensen Talks Jumper Sequel

But will it actually happen?

Like Push and Hancock, Jumper is one of those unofficial comics movies. It was based on a SF novel, yeah, but c’mon… the movie was basically X-Men Origins: Nightcrawler.  And, like any official comics movie, it’d be real easy to continue the story. Sequels talks have hopped up here and there since the flick bowed in ’08, and talks are continuing, as Hayden Christensen recently revealed to MTV at the premiere of that heist flick Takers.

So spoke young master Anakin

"We're talking about it right now actually… Hopefully [the story will go] somewhere a little darker. I think there's a lot you can do with it. It was sort of set up in a way it's gonna be mother hunting son and possibly even maybe sister hunting brother. We're talking about it, trying to figure it out."

Presumably, this would draw from the original novel’s sequel, Reflex, which shows how jumpers can also teleport from planet to planet and through time (in addition to the usual instantaneous jaunts to Egypt.) It also has Rachel Bilson’s character learning how to jump, too.The whole cryptic mother-hunting-son, sister-hunting-brother thing alludes to the conclusion of Jumper, which revealed that Christensen’s character’s mother was part of the anti-jumper Paladins and that he had a younger half-sister (who’d very likely join the Paladins.) Of course, lil' sis was played by Kristen Stewart, pre- Twilight, and she might be a wee bit harder to get this time.

How about they just re-do the first one and we forget that it had ever been made?
Hot_Karlon Aug. 20, 2010 at 10:21 a.m.
The first movie was pretty damn terrible in just about every way. Without Samuel L. Motherfucking Jackson eating the damn scenery every chance he got, Jaime Bell being a complete asshole and Rachel Bilson half-naked, the film would be basically irredeemable. When Sam was shocking Hayden to near death in the first 20 min of the movie or so I was literally cheering him on so that I could go home and move on with my life.

With that said, the idea behind the film isn't too hot either. Neat idea to teleport, yes but they would need an extremely charming, funny and likable protagonist and an equally charming and terrifying antagonist to make me forget about the crappy story behind the whole thing. Kinda like how Robert Downey Jr.'s performance made you forget most of the script deficiencies in Iron Man 2.

After seeing the original, it felt like it was the type of movie they could easily make a sequel for - though by no means deserved one. Plus, I'd imagine the first film made a bit of money, so I guess it makes financial sense...Whether Rachel Bilson wants to re-join Hayden Christensen after calling off their marriage and dumping him just a few weeks ago, I'm not so sure.

I would pay 10 bucks just to see Hayden Christensen "jump" into a volcano.
Mezmeroon Aug. 20, 2010 at 11:10 a.m.
Fuck no.  Jumper was terrible.  The thing I was most curious about was the kind of weaponry you would use to fight teleportation.  All they had were shitty electric rope guns and the only sci-fi explanation they could come up with was Samuel Jackson saying "Kind of hard to jump when you have 10,000 volts of electricity running through your brain."  I'm paraphrasing of course.  For the love of all that is holy I wish Christensen would jump his way out of the movie biz permanently.

@skrutop: How about we just make them disappear and not re make it and pretend they never happened all together?

y'know I never thought this kid was as bad as poeple pegged him after the SW PTs....but he said he was done acting...lol...guess not
Olivawon Aug. 20, 2010 at 11:55 a.m.
But Jumper was awful! Why make a sequel to a movie so awful?

Seriously, Jumper was about an asshole who only cared about himself and used his powers to steal money from banks and never to help anyone. The only cool parts were the super teleport punch, the teleportation of a giant double decker bus, and the teleporting chase scene. That's it.

It didn't help that it was one of the most poorly shot movies I've ever seen, either.

The only movie I ever found Hayden Christensen watchable in was Shattered Glass, primarily because he wasn't supposed to be a likelable character in it.

Really? A sequel to a bad movie?
MrMazzon Aug. 20, 2010 at 1:49 p.m.
i love the idea that sequels need to be darker ever since dark knight studios and people have been pushing the idea that o it was the dark tone that made it rock not the whole it was made by good people with good people part
Everyones_A_Criticon Aug. 20, 2010 at 5:36 p.m.
I fuckin' hated Jumper....
kariyanineon Aug. 20, 2010 at 10:09 p.m.
Is there anyone out there that is really begging for this?  I just don't see it.

Hehe, yeah, I imagine the producers sitting in a meeting "Let's go darker for the sequel, just look at Dark Knight, we should do it too!"

While I don't actively hate Jumper like some seem to, I'd much rather have a sequel to Push, really liked that one.

i hope he pays for what he did to star wars one day.
