According to ComicBookMovie.com, the Man Of Steel production team is recruiting extras for shoots in Vancouver in early October, specifically requesting "those who could be passed off as loggers for Nanaimo and commercial fishermen in Ucluelet." While that might shed light on a scene or two for the film, the casting call also had this little official synopsis of the film attached to them:
In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.
So, a more existential Superman for a confused 21st Century? We'll see how that plays out - it's not like anyone really needs to be told the Superman origin story again, do they? And is that description a bit too close to sounding like Smallville to anyone else? I'm mildly curious to see if Zack Snyder can do anything psychological, at all, but if he's working from a decent script and has capable producers guiding his hand, here's hoping he can pull it off. I'm also a bit curious as to what the "world under attack" plotline would seem to indicate; presumably Zod reappears early on, bent on conquest, or at least something bigger than the machinations of Lex Luthor. Only time will tell.
What do you make of all this? Is there any info in here that you found unexpected, or are you just looking forward to another big dumb movie featuring the world's most famous Boy Scout?

Definitely sounds like a Superman movie. Sounds a lot like the Superman Earth One graphic novel that came out not too long ago actually.

I will let Sucker Punch slide. 300, Dawn of the Dead, and Watchmen were all fantastic.
i feel that smallville slight was a bit harsh, that show had issues with consistency yes, but there were a lot of elements that created very interesting dynamics particularly clark and lex that really made the show feel fresh and it kept me engaged even if the show was in one of the times where it had fallen off the rails a bit.
Because he's the hero Metropolis needs, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not a hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A Man of Steel.
I. DO. NOT. CARE.
That's why I like Iron Man & Captain America. They EMBRACE their powers, and don't go all emo and crap!
I didn't really like the character before because he's virtually invincible, and I''ve never liked any of his origin stories, so it doesn't look like my mind is going to be changed, again.
Can you imagine Laurence Fishburne as Perry White saying that? Ooohhhh... I think I just jizzed a little...
@coloursheep: It wasn't intended as a slight at all; I'm just curious how much inspiration they might be taking from the show with the movie.
Zod: Kal'El, you're one of us, guy. You shouldn't be helping the humans.
Superman: *sobbing* I'm so conflicted!
Zod: Guh! Never mind. I didn't realize you were so whiny. I guess I'll threaten Lois Lane's life now.
Superman: Whoa, man. You can threaten all of Earth, but when you threaten the woman I have the hots for that's crossing the line! I'm going to fight you now despite the fact you're my own kind.
SCENE
sounds like a freaking origin story THAT WE ALREADY NO ugg well I don't like Superman as it is.
People need to stop tossing the word 'emo' around to describe something that isn't at all emo. That said, I don't much care for Superman as a character so I'll probably skip out on this one.

GOD, YES. THANK YOU.
Drives me crazy.
That really is incredibly vague.
With Zack Snyder directing and Chris Nolan writing and producing, this cannot go wrong in my eyes.
