Screened News

Hey, Here's A Bunch Of News About Stuff, Including A Possible Thor 2 Director

...and it's probably who you least expect for the role.

So it's Thursday and nothing of huge import seems to be happening in the world of film and television. We're waiting on some new trailers to arrive without watermarks, and I'm working on a script for the next edition of Sidegrades, but in the meantime, here's a few bullet points of news that might be of interest to you:

Lastly, there's been a recurrent rumor floating around the last couple of days that the ending of The Dark Knight Rises might be done entirely in CGI, for some reason. I think that sounds ludicrous, given Nolan's well-known penchant for physical effects, and the fact that the supposed secrecy of the ending would be a bit harder to nail down if it was suddenly put in the hands of hundreds of computer effects artists. Supposedly, of the major cast, only Gary Oldman has been informed of how Nolan's trilogy will end. The rest of us will have to wait for next summer, I suppose.

Modern Family managed to beat out the much-hyped premiere of The X-Factor in the ratings last night.

When's the last time Tim Burton actually made a good film?

Sandoron Sept. 22, 2011 at 3:30 p.m.

For a second I thought that was a True Blood promo.

TheCheese33on Sept. 22, 2011 at 3:50 p.m.

Oh, look, Helena Bonham Carter is there, too! It's the Burton family, back together after... one year!

depecheloadon Sept. 22, 2011 at 4:33 p.m.

Justin Timberlake already played a perfect Elton John in the video for This Train Don't Stop There Anymore, so why pick anyone else?

See, I really want to believe in The Dark Knight Rises. On one hand, trilogies never end well. On the other hand, it's Christopher Nolan. I want to believe, and then I see things like those awful Bane pics from a few weeks back and now this rumor that the ending will be done entirely in CG.

Please, Nolan, PLEASE prove me wrong. Make an actual quality trilogy instead of a stellar beginning, even better second act and tolerable third act like everyone else seems to.

So Thor 2 will be a deeply reflective personal drama where Thor examines his inner humanity?

Sweeny Todd was pretty good, although I wish I will never see another Tim burton movie featuring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter.

There's rumors about a hyped sequel to a movie loads of people liked? Well I never.

MooseyMcManon Sept. 23, 2011 at 4 a.m.

Garry Oldman and his mustache will prevent that ending from being all CGI.

CRACKERMAN92on Sept. 23, 2011 at 4:28 a.m.

@Buckwatters: Sweeney Todd

Sweeney Todd. So 2007. And the only movie he has made since then is Alice In Wonderland...

Hawkeyeon Sept. 23, 2011 at 12:59 p.m.

After last year's Grammys, I'd like to see Cee-Lo Green portray Elton John.

Dig Deeper into Thor

Thor, the self-absorbed and reckless Norse god of thunder, is cast out of the paradise of Asgaard and banished to the world of mortals. Stripped of his power and honor, he must redeem himself if he is to prevent an insidious plot that threatens not just Earth, but Asgaard itself.
