In Theaters: May 25th

Here come the Men in Black….Galaxy Defenders.

This weekend might be what some maybe call the weekend to "Kick Off the Summer" (and we can all now breathe a sigh of relief that we can wear white again). Although The Avengers already truly kicked off the movie season, today we have the next entry in the blockbuster film fest that we call the summer. I think the biggest question of the weekend is will Men in Black III be able to de-throne The Avengers after they have swept the box office for the last three weeks. My guess is yes. It been reported that MIB-III is better than one might expect and the time travel story and Josh Brolin are able to breath some new life in to the series. However, it is also the first time that Will Smith has been on the big screen in a starring role in 4 years. I know I can't wait to see him again. Although, I have to say, my choice for the weekend isn't quite as flashy, but is Wes Anderson's new film Moonrise Kingdom. I love me some Wes Anderson. If horror is your thing Chernobyl Diaries is out, and there are two foreign indie films that look really great. Overall, I say...let's go to the movies!

In Theaters

1. Men in Black III

A full decade later, the franchise is rebooted with its third film and apparently its pretty good. Thank you Agent J, Agent K and Young Agent K.

2. Chernobyl Diaries

If you like horror films, then maybe you should see this as it will most likely be formulaic and somewhat scary. However, reviews so far are that it is also incredibly boring, so maybe drink some coffee before you hit the theater.

3. Moonrise Kingdom

Racking in an impressive 96% fresh on rottentomatoes, seems like this mike be another Wes Anderson winner. The story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact and run away together into the wilderness. A stellar cast and gorgeous cinematography…some call it Anderson's best film since Rushmore. Better than The Royal Tenenbaums? I'm so in.

4. Battle Royale

I'm not exactly sure where it is playing, but after Hunger Games-mania, apparently Battle Royale is being released in a few theaters in 3D this weekend. This is also the first time it has had a theatrical release in the US. So…check if it is in a theater near you, and if so…RUN to see it.

5. The Intouchables

Based on a true story, this looks like a charming French film that explores the unlikely relationship between a handicapped millionaire and his street smart ex-con caretaker. It was a surprising box office hit in France and all across Europe, and if the tears I got while watching the trailer are any indication, it is going to be a great, emotional ride.

6. Oslo, August 31st

Another foreign film and another film with a rottetomatoes rating in the 90's, clocking in at 97% fresh. The trailer looks haunting and beautiful at the same time as the film follows the story of a man who is battling drug addiction. As part of rehab, he gets to spend a day in the city for a job interview, but instead takes a journey of of his past relationships and considers if he can make a new life for himself. I'm not sure if it is a "theater" movie, but looks like it is definitely a "you should see it" movie.

7. Cowgirls 'n Angels
Throwback to Disney live action family films, it is a coming-of-age rodeo drama. If you like westerns, horses or family films, this might be for you.
8. OC87: The Obsessive Compulsive, Major Depression, Bipolar, Asperger's Movie
Bud Clayman is a man with OCD, Aspergers, Depression and he has made a film about it. With the help of his friends he made a documentary film about "getting normal" and it looks like a pretty interesting and fascinating look in to these mental illnesses that can be truly debilitating.
9. The Becoming

I can't really find anything about this movie except that it is scary and Satan, Jesus Christ and some zombies are in it. I will leave it to you to decide.

Men in Black is the only hope to take down the Avengers, and officially kill Battleship.

Men in Black was not very funny but I thought it was entertaining.

Why is Battle Royale getting a 3D treatment? Not only would it look awful in 3D, it's not a good movie. It has no reason to be in 3D.

Wha? It's because I like horror films that I really don't want to see this. ;)

Men in Black 3 looks great, also it's a sequel not a reboot.

You're assuming Battleship ever stood a chance.

@CrimsonAvenger: I guess I need to work on my headline pun writing.

@Paindamnation: I think it could have made some scratch but being sandwiched by Avengers and MIB 3 will certainly sink it.

I've seen both Moonrise Kingdom and Intouchables (there are some advantages to living in France) and both are excellent.

@FinalDasa: I don't know, Avengers might still have some fight left in her.

JonathanAshleyMooreon May 26, 2012 at 9:20 p.m.

More interest in Moonrise Kingdom than Men in Black III, however odds are I'll end up seeing them both eventually. Moonrise Kingdom first if it's released in my local.

$55 million I was wrong, avengers Number 2

Dig Deeper into Men in Black III

The third film in the series focuses on Agent J (Will Smith) going back to the 1960s were he teams up with a younger Agent K(Josh Brolin) in order to avert a world-ending catastrophe.
