James Spader Joins The Office...But Not As The New Boss

Dunder Mifflin has a new CEO; Spader replaces Kathy Bates in the role.

Has anyone ever seen this man and Brent Spiner in the same room at the same time?

Like The Office? Like Kathy Bates? Well, those likes are no longer compatible. As Bates has taken her talents to Harry's Law, her role as the CEO of Dunder-Mifflin was apparently up in the air, and James Spader, who had a noteworthy cameo on last year's season finale, has been named as her replacement. I doubt he'll be in every episode, but I'm guessing he'll be recurring fairly often if they're announcing this kind of news this early. Like him or not, the dude has won multiple Emmys and should be a fine addition to the cast...I'm not sure if it'll draw me back to the show by itself, though.

Of course, we're still waiting to hear who'll be the new boss on the show to replace Michael Scott. This late in the game, I'm assuming that the showrunners either have a real dark horse in line for the role, or have no idea what they want to do with it. At this point, I'm assuming they just let the office stay empty for the beginning of the season before filling it with an already-established character. My vote would be Toby, if only to see how crestfallen the audience would be. Who's your vote?

More James Spader is never a bad thing.

To fill that boss role I want someone completely new and different... the show needs some new blood in it.

I dislike Kathy Bates and I thought James Spader was the best of all the potential bosses in the season finale so this is excellent news to me.
I just hope they don't pick that English bird for the actual boss. She was terrible.

I'm with you on everything you've said. And I also LOVED Boston Legal, so I couldn't be any happier :D

I doubt they could afford it or that he would do it, but I really enjoyed Jim Carrey's part. James Spader came off too much like William Shatner which I guess makes sense because of Boston Legal but his tone just rubbed me the wrong way.

Love this show, but haven't seen any of the latest season.

Spader was really funny on the office I'm glad he got the job I couldn't stand Bates on the show.

I thought Spader had a great bit part. I'll enjoy having a few episodes this season dedicated to him mind gaming everyone.

Boston Legal is one of my favorite shows (and Cronenberg's film 'Crash' is...interesting as well). Spader is a GOD.

If I want to see me some James Spader, I'll just pop in Mannequin. Yeah, that's right! Or, you know, I could watch some Boston Legal, or better yet: The Practice. I love Spader, but not enough to watch The Office.

They should give it to Harry Crane. Wasn't that guy on the show for a little while? If you can't get him just get somebody else from Madmen. What's Sal doing?
