When the day comes for Expendables 3, I figure the series will have
featured every American action star that didn’t show up in the first one for whatever silly reason. Norris… White… Seagal… maybe even Snipes (if he’s
out of jail by then…) would all surely see the value of getting into a big
ensemble that’d put them out of DTV and back in front of an “A” blockbuster's kind of audience again. C'mon, who else got a bizarre, rekindled appreciation for Dolph
Lundgren after that movie? There's value there.
Van Damme was another old school tough guy conspicuously missing from Expendables. Stallone said he wrote a part for him (I want to say it eventually
went to Jet Li) but JCVD turned it down because he didn’t think it
was deep enough. He told Sly the plot should be about something more thoughtful, instead--like the Expendables saving
kids in South Central LA (?!)
Even kickboxers come around eventually,
though, and the Daily Blam’s saying that Van Damme’s slotted to play one of the
villains in movie #2. Specifically, he’ll be the enforcer of the main heel Bruce Willis is playing; the Stone Cold Steve Austin to his Eric Roberts, as it were, but with more split kicks, and fewer middle fingers.

I see potential for Arnold returning since he wants to start acting again
A fairly small part but it's insane.
Love that movie.
How about Bolo fuckin' Yeung for a villain? Then he and JCVD could finally be on the same side. Nevermind, holy shit, he's 72 (according to Wikipedia).
@Tartarus: Fuck yeah, a Kurt Russell cameo would be awesome! Would he go with the Snake Plissken eyepatch, or the RJ MacReady beard/hat combo?
I knew he turned down the first one because of what you said, and actually it's funny as most would agree with him (a lot of complaints about the first one was that there was no substance [which I disagree with but whatever]) but he is my favorite action star of the 80s and 90s (I don't care what any one says, JCVD is awesome) and I thought it was shame he turned the first one down. It will be nice to see him in this.
Jackie Chan and Jet Li would be so cool.
Hell yeah. Seagal plays a great villain if you saw Machete.
So really it's a good thing he didn't join the cast, because I love Dolph Lundgren in that role!
Good to see he's finally coming around though.
EDIT: Oh man it would be so cool if Jackie Chan was Jet Li's old war buddy or something!
