Jean-Claude Van Damme Finally Comes Around To Be Bad Guy In Expendables 2?

Another old school action hero comes out for good ol' times.

When the day comes for Expendables 3, I figure the series will have featured every American action star that didn’t show up in the first one for whatever silly reason. Norris White Seagal… maybe even Snipes (if he’s out of jail by then…) would all surely see the value of getting into a big ensemble that’d put them out of DTV and back in front of an “A” blockbuster's kind of audience again. C'mon, who else got a bizarre, rekindled appreciation for Dolph Lundgren after that movie? There's value there.

Van Damme
was another old school tough guy conspicuously missing from Expendables. Stallone said he wrote a part for him (I want to say it eventually went to Jet Li) but JCVD turned it down because he didn’t think it was deep enough. He told Sly the plot should be about something more thoughtful, instead--like the Expendables saving kids in South Central LA (?!)

Even kickboxers come around eventually, though, and the Daily Blam’s saying that Van Damme’s slotted to play one of the villains in movie #2. Specifically, he’ll be the enforcer of the main heel Bruce Willis is playing; the Stone Cold Steve Austin to his Eric Roberts, as it were, but with more split kicks, and fewer middle fingers.

Bring on Expendables 2 with more old action heroes! So will Bruce Willis and Arnold return and play bigger roles?

I see potential for Arnold returning since he wants to start acting again

Also less beer as well.  This news is very good and I can't wait for this movie to become a reality.

Van Damme wanted a deeper plot now he just wants deeper pockets. Snipes should be in damn it prison or no prison and I would love to see Kurt Russell in the next one even for a cameo.

People keep praising Dolph Lundgren in The Expendables, didn't anyone watch Universal Soldier: Regeneration?

A fairly small part but it's insane.
Love that movie.

Nice, JCVD was a glaring omission from the first one. Segal might be a little too doughy these days, though.

How about Bolo fuckin' Yeung for a villain? Then he and JCVD could finally be on the same side. Nevermind, holy shit, he's 72 (according to Wikipedia).

@Tartarus:   Fuck yeah, a Kurt Russell cameo would be awesome! Would he go with the Snake Plissken eyepatch, or the RJ MacReady beard/hat combo?

Shit, Stone Cold Steve Austin should be in this movie, too!

I thought Stallone didn't want a second movie.

No dicks shall be left un-punched!

so sayeth JCVD.

Ya, that's good to know.

I knew he turned down the first one because of what you said, and actually it's funny as most would agree with him (a lot of complaints about the first one was that there was no substance [which I disagree with but whatever]) but he is my favorite action star of the 80s and 90s (I don't care what any one says, JCVD is awesome) and I thought it was shame he turned the first one down. It will be nice to see him in this.

Be nice to see some Jackie Chan up in there too...

Hell yeah. Seagal plays a great villain if you saw Machete.

Actually I think he was meant to play Dolph Lundgren's character.

So really it's a good thing he didn't join the cast, because I love Dolph Lundgren in that role!

Good to see he's finally coming around though.

EDIT: Oh man it would be so cool if Jackie Chan was Jet Li's old war buddy or something!

I don't think Segal will ever be in an Expendables movie. He is so huge he would literally take up the entire screen.
SquirrelGODon May 9, 2011 at 5:32 p.m.
Oh, man!  I didn't know that they were pushing forward with the sequel!  If Bruce Willis is the bad guy, then that means we'll (at the very least) get a firefight between Stallone and Willis!  What needs to happen, is that Stallone needs help from another group of mercenaries consisting of Arnold  Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris, Kurt Russel, and Jackie Chan.

Dig Deeper into The Expendables

Sylvester Stallone writes, directs, and also stars with a troop of action movie legends in this throwback action flick about a team of mercenaries who take on a suicidal mission to overthrow a South American dictator.
