Joaquin Phoenix shows off the implements of his signature knock-out move, the "Bye!Good" punch.
If the barbs being traded over Ed Norton
's--let's admit it--firing from playing the Hulk
in 2012's The Avengers
movie haven't made enough waves to excite you today then maybe the swirling rumors of his replacement will. CHUD is reporting
, via their own unnamed source, that Marvel has offered the role of Bruce Banner to Hollywood recluse and "rapper" Joaquin Phoenix
and they want an answer from the actor by the time Comic Con rolls around later this month. If this rumor is true it constitutes Phoenix's only chance in the foreseeable future for the eccentric actor to pull out of his bizarre self-imposed exile and rejoin the Hollywood mainstream. Whether or not that's what he actually wants remains to be seen.
The past couple years for Phoenix have been, well, strange. After being lauded for his performance in Two Lovers
Phoenix announced in an infamous, barely coherent interview on The Tonight Show
that he intended to leave acting and focus on a rap career. As of early 2010 only a handful of people were privy to the contents of his album. Brother-in-law Casey Affleck
followed Phoenix around for the year he spent producing the album and made a documentary titled I'm Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix,
which he's been shopping around to distributors since May. With Comic Con quickly approaching we should know fairly soon whether or not this rumor will pan out and if the idiosyncratic Phoenix proves a better choice for Marvel bosses than the skilled-yet-volatile Norton.
