Judge Dredd Calls The Psychic Hotline, Gets Sidekick

I AM THE LAW. Well, me and this lady over here. She's kind of the law, too.

Man, the Judge armor weighs more than she does.

Like Judge Dredd? Like pretty ladies? Then have I got news for you! Looks like Olivia Thirlby has joined the cast of the upcoming Judge Dredd reboot; according to Variety, she'll be playing "a telepathic rookie who shadows Dredd.” You'll probably know Thirlby best as Juno's witty best friend in Juno, although she's apparently been doing a lot of indie work over the last few years. She'll also be co-starring with Emile Hirsch in the upcoming alien-invasion thriller The Darkest Hour, so it looks like she might have a hankering for sci-fi (or, at least, recognizes that it's a good path to a large fanbase for a young, attractive actress).

Hey, if Diane Lane can pull off being a Judge, then there's no reason that Thirlby can't - it's just kind of amusing that the Judge armor probably weighs more than she does. What do you think she's packing, 80 pounds? 90, tops? I'm going to go ahead and bet that her telepathic powers allow her to see a second into the future and thus gain the upper hand in combat, or some such. But what do you think? Does Judge Dredd even need a sidekick? Is this an upgrade over Rob Schneider?

She might pull it off sure but the movie overall might not have its charm like the original

HELLO PRETTY LADY

Oh shit, they're actually casting ACTORS in this movie! This could be pretty damn good. Also, ya can't have Judge Death (or any of the Dark Judges) without Hershey. Just sayin'.

Love Olivia Thirlby.

Indeed.

Has anybody else actually seen New York, I Love You? She was in the Brett Ratner short and it was really cute and clever. People give Ratner a lot of shit, but his short was one of the best included in the movie.

On-topic: Olivia is cute as fuck. That's on-topic right? Also, does anybody else think she kinda looks like Jenna Haze?

Yes you can.
It's Anderson you can't have without the Dark Judges.
And they (Dark Judges) won't be in this movie, the villain is someone named ''MA-MA''
And with this movie getting a HARD R rating (thus limiting merchandise opportunities & how many buts fill those theater seats) I wouldn't expect a sequel anytime soon :(

She looks so much better as a brunette.

PS. Love it how most of the comments are about looks, and nothing to do with the article. :P

a judge dredd remake? okay, that seems pretty good. i saw it on the syfy channel 3 weeks ago and thought it was pretty good.
litrockon Sept. 3, 2010 at 1:43 p.m.
@Kajaah117: That was RATNER's short?!  Oh man, color me impressed. That was easily the best one in there. I just ... didn't know.

DROKK!
This isn't a REMAKE anymore then Batman Begins was a remake of the 1989 Batman movie!
This is a ''supposedly'' more faithful adaptation of the Dredd comic series.
This has nothing to do with that egotistical Stallone movie called ''DREDD''.
Daemonon Sept. 3, 2010 at 1:51 p.m.
Actually if you're a slight Judge Dredd comic book nerd then this actually makes some sense as in the Judge Dredd comics they actually do have a Psi-Division of Judges and the most famous ones (Judge Anderson actually having her own comic series) are typically female so this is actually still keeping close to the canon of the series so far.

@litrock: Inorite? I don't know if he wrote it though, and the writing and the concept itself was what made that short so great. Ratner's direction may have very little do with it.

Regardless, that was one of the most clever romantic short stories I've seen, in my recent memory at least..
litrockon Sept. 3, 2010 at 1:56 p.m.
@Kajaah117: Yeah. That movie was really a bummer, considering I really enjoyed Paris Je T'aime. I should have known that recapturing the thunder would have been hard, but there were moments where it was really great.
Kajaah117on Sept. 3, 2010 at 2:02 p.m.
@litrock: It was better than the media marketing machine otherwise known as Valentine's Day. At least New York, I Love You took some risks with the stories, like that abstract, borderline-surrealist one starring Shia Labeouf doing a pretty solid Russian accent. Paris Je T'aime is really excellent though, so your disappointment is understandable.
sureokayon Sept. 3, 2010 at 2:03 p.m.
Soooo pretty. (I don't even know what Judge Dredd is to be honest.)
litrockon Sept. 3, 2010 at 2:04 p.m.
@Kajaah117: Well, yeah. Valentine's Day isn't even on the same level of film. I had just seen Paris Je t'aime when it first came out, and had been eagerly waiting for New York since they said they were going to do it. Too few short films (or collections) make it to my part of the country.
Jazzon Sept. 3, 2010 at 2:20 p.m.
Oh Anderson's in this huh?
....hmm. Interesting. I would have thought that the whole 'Dark Judges' would just confuse the crap out of those who don't know the background.
Bones8677on Sept. 3, 2010 at 2:22 p.m.
Very cute. She reminds me of Lacey Chabert. :-)
Martin_Blankon Sept. 3, 2010 at 4:42 p.m.
She'll more than likely be a counter-point to Dredd's fascist attitude. If she is indeed Anderson then it hopefully portends the Dark Judges in a possible sequel, perhaps, some Egyptians believe.
I also approve of Olivia Thirlby's lips.
 The voice of reason.

Dig Deeper into Dredd

Film adaptation of the classic comic character, first appearing in 1977. The film has been described by the filmmakers as not remake of the 1995 film Judge Dredd starring Sylvester Stallone, but a more faithful adaptation of the character.
