Kurt Russell Will Probably Be Quentin Tarantino's Affable Slave Master

Russell and Tarantino poised to reunite as the actor starts talks to take over the role once offered to Kevin Costner.

As we here at Screened continue our concerted effort to be the most all-encompassing, painstakingly detailed news resource for all things pertaining to America's Greatest Treasure, Kurt Russell, we today bring you news that Russell has begun talks to reunite with his Death Proof director Quentin Tarantino on his latest project, the renegade slave revenge flick Django Unchained.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Russell will reportedly be taking over the role once offered to Kevin Costner. Specifically, the role of Ace, a charming, if still fairly detestable slave trainer under the employ of Leonardo DiCaprio's plantation owning bad guy, Calvin Candie. Ace's job is to oversee the plantation and train slaves to fight in gladiatorial battles for the amusement of the Caucasian public.

Just to put this all in perspective, Russell would join a cast that already includes DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, and presumably a barefoot woman or two. While the Costner pick would have been a fascinating one--can't you just imagine him whipping slaves for his own terrible amusement?--Kurt Russell automatically makes everything better. Yes, even Sky High.

Captain Ron would definitely make a better slave master than the post-master.

Oh god, Di Caprio, Russell, Waltz, Jackson and Tarrantino? This is too much. TOO MUCH

I don't want to have to hate Kurt.. I wish Samuel L would play the Slave Master.

Django Unchained has officially overtaken Prometheus as my most hyped movie...

Huge improvement over Costner. I agree Alex, Russel makes EVERYTHING better.

He's the most affable slave master I know.

Wrighteous86on Oct. 3, 2011 at 1:08 p.m.

Kurt Russell could be a fantastic "likeable" villain.

Yeah...cause Kurt Russell was in it.

And Mary Elizabeth Winstead is hot.

Certainly a weird cast. Also Sky High was actually pretty good.

This news pleases me. The more I think about, the more I can see this becoming a movie I will thoroughly enjoy.

It might be Rosario Dawson's.

@cooljammer00: Rosario Dawson's foot.

Aw, come on, Sky High was awful to a degree, yes, but it is just a kid's movie. It is what it is and yes Kurt Russell did make it more tolerable had he not been in it.

Kurt Russell is da man, even if he's playing the man.

Dig Deeper into Django Unchained
