It's been known for a bit now that Christopher Meloni would be departing the cast of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit following the conclusion of this past season. It's also been known that Mariska Hargitay would be a part of the next SVU season, but only in a far more limited capacity than in previous seasons (she's only signed on for 13 episodes).
This led to the logical conclusion that next season would feature a new set of featured detectives tasked with the unenviable job of hitting the New York streets and stopping rapists from doing all that rapin'. Now, according to Deadline, those anti-rape cops have been found in a pair of very attractive people.
Former star of Chase Kelli Giddish and Cold Case alum Danny Pino will be taking over the reins as the series leads, upping the series' "hot people" factor significantly, though one might argue that that sort of thing is sort of beside the point on a series like this. Unless you're the D.A. Then you have to be a hot lady. It's a Dick Wolf mandate.
I'm honestly more interested in how they plan to explain Hargitay's reduced role and Meloni's sudden departure. If it involves his character being raped to death, I don't think I'll be able to continue watching this show in any capacity. It'd just be too painful to think about.
