Marvel is taking a big step into live action superhero shows. In a deal with Netflix, Marvel/Disney will produce four television series and one mini series based on popular Marvel comic book characters. The characters confirmed for these shows are Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones. Netflix is committed to running the four series for 13 episodes seasons ending with the miniseries called The Defenders which will feature a group of superheroes.
This deal is a pretty big for both companies. Marvel has had a hot hand with their movie franchises but not every character can maybe carry an entire film. Even with Marvel's Agents of SHIELD running on ABC it isn't garnering the attention that Marvel may have been dreaming of. According to the statement this deal was born out of the content deal Disney made with Netflix to stream their movies.
How big is this for Netflix though? Disney owns their own network and ABC studios will be producing these shows and yet all the content will be only online. Clearly Disney knows where they need to be making and placing content to get the best ratings in key demographics.
Would you Pups watch a Luke Cage or Daredevil live action show? Would you keep up something streaming or does the Agents of SHIELD weekly show appeal to you more?
