Marvel's The Avengers is breaking records already.

Holy Balls, I don't think we have to worry about The Avengers making enough money.

Marvel's The Avengers is breaking records already, and it doesn't even open in the US for another week. In what I think was a pretty smart move, Disney released the film Internationally yesterday, and it was the highest grossing opening ever in New Zealand. In Taiwan the release was the biggest industry Wednesday opening ever, and in Australia, it was the second-highest opening behind only the last Harry Potter film. All in all, it was the highest Marvel opening day over beating Iron Man 2 by 214% (that is a lot of percents).

And the money train doesn't stop there. Domestically, the pre-sales for The Avengers is higher than the three previous Marvel movies combined. Right now, they are 1 1/2 times the sales of Captain America, Thor, Iron Man 2 and Iron Man combined at the same point before they opened. This probably isn't a surprise as this installment of the Marvel super-hero franchise brings together huge super-heroes, huge stars (with Robert Downey Jr, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, etc.) and a huge director (Joss Whedon). Yup, color me excited. I'm only disappointed that it isn't playing at the Cineramadome - my favorite theater, but I will make an exception for this one, and venture somewhere else. Do you guys have your tickets yet? Looks like you better snap some up if you want to get in on the opening weekend action.

I really hope this one lives up to its hype.

I'm still wondering why it has such a release overseas before releasing it here in the US. Build the hype?

CrimsonAvengeron April 26, 2012 at 12:24 p.m.

I think I should pre-order my ticket for this film because I'm sure it's going to be packed in the theater. Marvel Studios knows what they're doing with these films and I'm glad to see this is doing well. I think one big reason why the film is going to be a huge success is that this film has had excellent marketing since the first trailer was released. Rarely do movies have quite good marketing these days but Marvel has done a great job with this film's marketing. I really hope it lives up to the hype.

I'm in Europe so I got to go and see it this afternoon.

The movie is mind-blowingly awesome. I'm not normally into hyping a movie, but holy shit it's literally the comic superteam movie you always dreamed of seeing on the big screen but never thought they'd actually make. I honestly kept saying to myself: "This can't get more awesome..." only to have something more awesome happen 30 seconds later. Freakin' unbelievable.

God damn.

@Morden2261: Was it busy when you went?

ganglyon April 26, 2012 at 12:57 p.m.

I REALLY wish I cared at all about this movie. Seriously. I'm not being sarcastic. I just see all these people cumming in their pants and I really just can't understand why. Hopefully watching the damned thing'll clue me in.

Morden2261on April 26, 2012 at 1 p.m.

For a 3:30pm show on Thursday it was pretty busy. My wife and I bought our tickets way in advance and even then there were far more seats gone for the shows later in the day. They'll probably be nearly sold out if not completely sold out.

For reference's sake, I'm in Denmark and it's really expensive to see movies here. Two tickets for a 3D movie costs about 240 Danish Kroner, which is nearly 50 US Dollars. There are no discounts for matinee movies. This makes it an expenditure people usually put a little extra thought into.

On the plus side, you can choose which seats you want to buy tickets for at time of purchase so buying early ensures you'll have those perfect seats right in the middle. Also, movie theaters sell beer.

Ah all this news is making me really excited I can't wait for next weekend

To be honest, I thought The Avengers would be a total mess, but the reviews are in over at Rotten Tomatoes and it currently has a 95%. I'm totally stoked to see this.

Winterneton April 26, 2012 at 1:17 p.m.

I saw it. Meh. It's fine, it entertains. There are worst ways to pass 2h20m.

meaninoflife42on April 26, 2012 at 1:26 p.m.

I'm going to go see this in D-Box FOR FREE because they just brought that technology to my nearest theater and I have a gift certificate.

Also, since when is Joss Whedon a huge director? Let's see, he directed . . Serenity. Yeah, huge!
