Since Joss Whedon directed The Avengers this summer to great fanfare, he has now been welcome as a solid action/big budget director. However, that doesn't mean that he will stop making charming smaller films. And, wow, does it look like he directs the shit out of this movie.
I love all of the interesting choices including the black and white, and the sparsely colored frames. It also looks like an incredibly interesting and modern take on Shakespeare and as many directors have struggled to do that right, I am excited to see if he can. Oh, and it wouldn't be a true Joss Whedon movie without Nathan Fillion, so its nice to see his face.
Much Ado About Nothing has been making its rounds on the festival circuit and will open at SXSW (in case you were wondering, yes it is killing me to not be in Austin this week.) It will be released in theaters this summer.

But does it have Keanu Reeves?
Contemporary setting with old school Shakespeare dialogue his never really been my bag. Regardless this looks pretty competent.
YES YES YES YES YES, I've been wanting to see this movie ever since I found out Whedon made it. And this is from someone who dosen't find most shakespear interesting.
I'm willing to go see this, because I'm a fan of Joss Whedon.
@phoenix87x:
I too, find it very bizarre when you're seeing a contemporary-set film, and all of the actors are speaking in Shakespeare-type dialogue. I remember watching Coriolanus, and that was a very intriguing and very complex movie. Plus, the dialogue sounded just plain weird, but I was still able to follow the plot.
Had to read this play twice and saw the 90s movie twice. Still don't like it. Even though it's one of his best titles ever. Nothing means sex. Classic!
This looks brilliant, primarily because I've always though Shakespeare wasted his wit on dialog at the expense of story.
It looks as though his superb talent of language won't be dampened.
Is the Hulk in this? No? I'll pass
I love that Joss Whedon has made an almost 180 degree turn in terms of the style of movie he's making. First he makes the Avengers, a big, multimillion dollar summer blockbuster with superheroes and action, and the next he makes a black-and-white, micro-budget Shakespeare adaptation.
Either way, I like Shakespeare and Whedon, and this movie does look really good. Almost like if Baz Luhrmann's Romeo & Juliet was actually enjoyable.
Watch the trailer for THE ARTIST. The music and tone are almost the exact same. I guess since they are both black-and-white the producers decided to market them in the same way.
Why is MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING black-and-white?
I wish Kenneth Branagh would make another one of his gorgeous Shakespeare adaptations.
YES!
@VioletEyedDragon: Style-choice and because it meant that Whedon didn't have to worry about colour co-ordinating the costumes or sets or anything due to the extremely limited time-frame he had to make the movie in.
As for the trailer, that is definitely Shakespeare dialogue in black and white coming out of actors I like, alright. Yep. That's... something.
I'm still seeing it, mind, but the trailer did little for me. Song's ace, though.
I don't want to be a film snob but the black and white looks like shit. I get that Whedon rushed through the movie and it was a labor of love but if he plans on releasing this in theater and charge actual money he could of fixed it up in post.
Good to see Whedon hasn't forgotten about Wesley, Fred, and that nerdy blonde guy who was part of that geek Trinity thing from Buffy Season 6.
