Netflix Integration Comes To Screened.com

Netflix and Screened, sitting in a tree, d-a-t-a-i-n-g...

 It's heeeeeere!
 It's heeeeeere!
Folks, one of the things that one Ted "Theodore" Nyman, Mike "Michael" Horn, and our other wonderful engineers have been working on for a while is a way to get your Screened accounts more closely linked up with that wonderful Netflix service that you may have heard about. Today, those changes go live, and you should find yourself with a wealth of information on Screened about your Netflix account, as well as a number of features that will make it easier to both track how efficiently you're using Netflix. Want to check it out? The changes should be live now; just go to your profile and click on the Netflix tab there to sync things up. Just make sure you're logged in to Netflix in the same browser session as your Screened page is in, and it should go along fairly smoothly. Want a preview? Check out Alex's Netflix profile and poke around the movies he's been watching!

There's a bevy of data that we're going to pull in from Netflix, so let's take a look at the data porn that's coming your way when you sync up your account:

  • Average amount paid per DVD received and Instant Stream watched. Haven't returned that copy of Taken since you got it three months ago? Your average cost per disc is gonna go up!
  • An estimate of minutes of footage viewed.
  • Ever wonder how many instant streams you actually complete? Get your percentage here! Don't worry if you skip the credits; there's a bit of wiggle room in what's counted as a "completion".
  • A collection of your most-watched actors, directors, screenwriters, genres, and filmmaking decades!
  • The ability to add movies to your queue directly from Screened!
  • Pop up an Instant Watch window to start streaming movies and TV without having to go to Netflix! Try it with Iron Man (look in the upper left corner of the page). (Not every Instant Watch film is listed as such on Screened at the moment, but that data will improve over the next few days.)
  • Compare your history with those of your Screened friends and check out other people's histories!

 You say I'm streamable?
 You say I'm streamable?
As with any other advanced technology, with great power comes great responsibility, so it's worth noting that the information that you sync to your Screened account is going to be visible by anyone who uses the site: if you don't want everyone to know that you've been streaming that Kama Sutra movie every night since you broke up with your girlfriend, you may not want to sync up your data just yet. If you ever want to remove Screened's access to your data, you can also de-authorize Screened on the Netflix homepage to clear your data.
 Coming Soon:

  • Netflix film rankings will be ported to your Screened account. These rankings will not overwrite existing film rankings on Screened; it will just add rankings to movies you've rated on Netflix but not on Screened.
  • The ability to see your entire history on one screen.
  • More social features!

If you run into any errors, there's a thread to report them right here. We're pretty excited about these new features, so hop into your profile and sync up!

NOTE: Canadian data is currently wonky, as the Netflix API currently has a hard time with it. It should improve soon, however, so you Canucks should stay tuned...

I share a Netflix account with the rest of my family, so the trash that they watch will show up on my account. Feel free to judge me about this!

I love it, though I'm weirdly obsessed checking out everyone's addiction ranking now.  MUST FIND THE OTHER NETFLIX JUNKIES

I, too, share Netflix with my family, so strange things may pop up from time to time. Hopefully, it's more The Warriors than Shrek 2.

What is this Netflix thing? Oh wait... it's that magic portal on my TV-looky-box that I use to watch Thankskilling. Very nice.

How does the addiction ranking work? I'm 20 but I don't know if that's good or bad or neither cause it's just a number. I care, but I want to know WHY I CARE.

Same with me. I let my sisters use it and they watch Desperate Housewives and some other lame shows off my account.

Oh yeah, I gave my friend access too. So that's even crazier of a list.
