To give you a bit of a taste, the soon-to-be-gone films include La Femme Nikita, Lethal Weapon 2, many of the original Star Trek films, Air Force One, Catch-22, and The Warriors. We'll have to make up the difference with The Verdict, Daybreakers, Mesrine: Killer Instinct, Happy Gilmore, Please Give, and The Square. There's plenty more where that came from, however, so let's take a look at a more diverse sampling.
Netflix Coming Soon
| | 1. The Verdict Feb 28: One of my favorite Paul Newman roles, with a cracking screenplay from a relatively new talent, David Mamet. |
| | 2. Emma Feb 18: Jane Austen? Charlotte Bronte? Emily Bronte? Hell, I was an English major, and I can't even keep all these novel adaptations apart. |
| | 3. Daybreakers Feb 25: Vampires take over the Earth, and inspire tepidly-received major motion pictures! |
| | 4. Fish Tank Feb 22: Another British film for the Michael Fassbender fans among you; he plays the boyfriend of a young single mother who apparently takes a liking to her daughter as well. |
| | 5. The Spy Next Door Feb 19: Oh, Jackie Chan. No one will think poorly of you if you happen to retire. You're already in that awkward "Joe Montana playing for the Chiefs" stage. You're a Hall of Famer, dude; you don't have anything left to prove. Go coach somewhere. |
| | 6. The Last Station Feb 20: Tolstoy's my favorite novelist, but even though the cast here seems to be great (Helen Mirrin, Christopher Plummer, Paul Giamatti, et al), I don't necessarily think a historical drama about his life would be all that interesting. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, though. |
| | 7. Me and Orson Welles Feb 17: That Zac Efron is pretty dreamy, and I had no clue this was a Richard Linklater film. So maybe I'll check it out? |
| | 8. Standing Ovation Feb 20: The tween High School Musical is finally, finally viewable in my own home, without having to risk being profiled by the guy at the video shop. |
| | 9. Kings of Pastry Feb 22: A documentary about an apparently high-stakes French pastry competition, featuring what looks to be an inordinate amount of shattered sugar glass and weeping men. |
| | 10. Down Terrace Feb 17: A crime comedy that looked pretty understated, is all I got from the trailer. |
| | 11. Happy Gilmore Feb 23: Ah, back in happier days, when Adam Sandler could make shit jokes and they were still mildly amusing. |
| | 12. Mesrine: Killer Instinct Feb 22: It's been a good couple of years for French films, and this seems to be one of the best, if the critical reception is to be believed. |
| | 13. Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer Feb 24: I bet Spitzer just dies a little bit inside every time someone watches this movie. How'd he wind up on CNN, anyway? Is that like the male version of doing a sex tape and getting your own Bravo reality show? |
| | 14. Hellboy Feb 26: Fond affection for one of Del Toro's more commercial, but fun films. |
| | 15. Hugh Hefner: Playboy, Activist and Rebel Feb 20: I'd like to see Hefner as an actual rebel, as in wearing a beret and smoking a cigar and fighting against the capitalist scum while trying to manage his relationship with a set of triplets. |
| | 16. Until the Light Takes Us Feb 20: Norwegian black metal documentary. That's probably all a few of you need to hear to be queueing this up already. Alex liked this a bunch. |
| | 17. Strange Days Feb 25: It's odd, but even though I love some dystopian sci-fi, I've never been an amazingly huge fan of Kathryn Bigelow's Strange Days. I know many who swear by it, though, so check it out. |
| | 18. Please Give Feb 28: I watched a bit of this on Blu-Ray and it struck me as New York Indie Movie #284. |
| | 19. The Square Feb 24: Well-written, tautly directed, fine acting, but this thriller still struck me as a bit too by-the-numbers. Still, definitely worth a watch. |

I like Daybreakers.
The King of Kong is so fantastic. I highly recommend anyone who was even tangentially interested to check that out. It was way better than I expected. I caught it one Saturday afternoon on a whim and enjoyed it a lot. It's a perfect Saturday/Sunday afternoon movie.
Me, I'm just bidding my time until The Spy Next Door is up. Ah, Jackie Chan and preschoolers. How could this idea not work?!
Also, good to know I can now watch Standing Ovation. I wanted to check it out, but the fear of Netflix shipping judging me is too much! Instant Watch only judges the cyber me(atwad,FLY).
Check it out, Rorie.
