I need to start keeping my Netflix queue open while I compile these lists, because I always see movies buried deep in them that I want to check out, but completely forget about adding them to Netflix when I get done with the story. That's not going to happen today, and Elektra Luxx and HappyThankYouMorePlease have already gone to the bottom of my DVD queue, with Cedar Rapids following hard upon them, although it won't be available on the 'flix for another month. (Hopefully the impending death of Blockbuster will ease up those stupid month-long embargoes in the future, but I'm sure the studios will be just as happy to make their money on video-on-demand).
Among the bigger releases, though, I've already seen The Adjustment Bureau and Unknown, and in fact reviewed them both, so I'll probably pass on watching them again for the moment. Wild horses couldn't keep me away from Diary Of A Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules, though. Well, actually, a lot of things could keep me away from Rodrick Rules, including the fact that there are about a million other movies I'd rather watch first. See anything you plan on picking up, though?
| 1. The Adjustment Bureau I confess to having had a perfectly good time at this film, which featured some impressively real dialogue and an endearingly silly premise. It's not the best Philip K Dick movie around, but it's entertaining nonetheless. Check it out and maybe you'll like it? | |
| 2. Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules I don't know anything about these films at all other than the fact that they make a lot of money. So, enjoy. | |
| 3. Unknown This is more or less the definition of wasted potential. They could've done a lot of cool things with Unknown and instead choose to dive face first into a mostly mediocre Bourne Identity knockoff, except without any of the cool fights. | |
| 4. Cedar Rapids Alex liked it, and as a fan of low-key comedies, I'm all but destined to make time for this when I can get a copy from Netflix. Cinema needs more Ed Helms. | |
| 5. The Eagle I'm not sure anyone could convince me to actually watch any more Channing Tatum, at least not by choice. The man is unwatchable. This is a fact that is obvious to almost everyone, and yet he continues to make millions of dollars and somehow convinces Steven Soderbergh to make films based on his life. I don't get it. | |
| 6. Rammbock Alternately known as Berlin Undead, this is an apparently great German zombie film that primarily takes place in a single apartment building. Any horror fans have a bead on this one? | |
| 7. Elektra Luxx Carla Gugino's one of those actresses who seems to deserve a better shake than she gets, although perhaps I'm only saying that because I rewinded her scene in Sin City about a million times. Anyway, this porn comedy apparently isn't very good, but it's got Gugino, and apparently Joseph Gordon-Levitt gets to make out with Malin Ackerman. I'd watch that. | |
| 8. Louie In TV releases, we've got Louie: Season One, The Closer: The Complete Sixth Season, Medium: The Seventh Season, Rocko's Modern Life: Season One, and Big Time Rush: Season One, Volume 2 | |
| 9. The Island Older films coming to Blu-Ray include The Island, one of Michael Bay's biggest bombs, Kiss Me Deadly, The Medallion (really? Someone thought this needed a Blu-Ray release?), and Ghost In The Shell: Solid State Society. | |
| 10. HappyThankYouMorePlease New Yorkers have a hard time with their love lives! Whatever would they do if they didn't have the medium of independent films with which to watch their twee spill over? The fact that they made Malin Akerman (only one of the most achingly pretty actresses working today, and I'm not even a blonde kind of guy) shave her head for this makes me think that maybe they ventured a little too far into the realm of Serious Art. Still, I'll check it out. | |
| 11. Ceremony Aw, someone's in love with Uma Thurman and can't stand to see her get married! Surprisingly enough, this wasn't written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. Although if it was maybe more than 34% of critics would've liked it. | |
| 12. Mega Python Vs. Gatoroid The latest SyFy/The Asylum magnum opus stars both Tiffany and Debbie Gibson. "The film's soundtrack features the songs "Snake Charmer" by Debbie Gibson and "Serpentine" by Tiffany." BOUGHT. |

Getting Cedar Rapids and Louie Season 1 for sure.
Don't forget Squidbillies vol. 4 DVD.
Ceremony is an awesome dramedy- I recommend it. I'm definitely getting The Adjustment Bureau and Cedar Rapids too... wow... Great haul this week.
I actually might be one of few people that enjoyed watching The Island. *sigh*
Cedar Rapids is a definite watch for me.
and whats with all the channing tatum hate?? seriously, its bizzare.
Rocko's Modern Life is out as well this week. Picking it up on Thursday.

Because the entire series is free on Netflix, so why bother at this point?
Probably gonna pick up Adjustment Bureau, which I saw in the theatre and liked a lot, and Ceremony at some point.
@VioletEyedDragon: Maybe because he is crap, just a step above Sam Worthington in acting capabilities? Or are you joking? Honestly can't tell. Eagle was the definition of mediocre if you ask me.
im not joking. i think tatum is a perfectly good actor. and eagle was the best movie of the year so far.
what movies have you seen tatum in??
It depresses me a little to look over that and realise that Kiss Me Deadly is the only film mentioned that I really want (and it's a Criterion so I can't even import it over here without buying a region A blu-ray player!).
Still, I'd like to see Cedar Rapids and Louie. The Adjustment Bureau was OK but I don't see me buying it any time soon.
@VioletEyedDragon: ... Best movie of the year? Come on, really? You are crazy, but fair enough ;)
Apart from Eagle I saw Tatum in GI Joe, Stop Loss, Fighting, Havoc and half of Dear John, and the only movie I liked him in was Stop Loss, where he was admittedly okay, but other than that no, just no.
what do you think the year's best is?? please dont say source code i know thats what everyone says but c'mon that movie stinks!
you have seen a decent amount of tatum films. still, you might enjoy him more in the dillemma (though you dont seem like the sort to like the movie as a whole)
i am still confused as to why you dislike him. sure, he plays rather bland characters, but that doesnt mean its his acting.
Elektra Luxx is a good, lighthearted movie (: I did a review here
I just bought Adjustment Bureau! :D so hope it's good.
