Anyway, some good releases coming up this week, with The Fighter leading them all in terms of box office and critical prestige. Eventually you will be able to play all of the Oscar candidates in the comfort of your own home, but for now you'll have to take an airplane trip to see The King's Speech, Black Swan is still a couple of weeks out, and we'll have to wait until June for a True Grit DVD. By the time that comes out, people will already be buzzing about next year's Oscars. It's a never-ending merry-go-round of buzz, nowadays, especially with ten candidates.

1. The Fighter
Who's going to buy this? Not you, not you, not you! Or maybe all of you. While it didn't win as much at the Oscars as I'm sure its producers would've liked, this is still, by all accounts, an excellent film that should do really well on DVD. |

2. Hereafter
This is one of the 2010 movies that I really want to see again, for some reason. I don't recall it as being exceptional, but its tone was wildly different than what I expected, which is always a pleasant surprise. |
3. The Switch
If Jason Bateman staring into a sperm receptacle can't bring in the audiences, what can? Although, I guess you could interpret "sperm receptacle" in multiple ways. |
4. The Wildest Dream: Conquest of Everest
The Wildest Dream...that's a Man From La Mancha line, isn't it? At any rate, this is a story about the search for George Mallory's body on the peak of Everest. I'm always shocked that these kinds of films are released in IMAX, because I know those IMAX cameras are amazingly huge. |
5. Waste Land
Brooklyn artist travels to the world's largest garbage dump in his native Brazil and interviews/interacts with the guys who go through the dump and get cash for recyclable materials. Uplifting...or at least really smelly. |
6. No One Knows About Persian Cats
Bitches just don't know about Persian cats! A documentary look at the creation of an underground band in Iran after the two creators get released from jail and prepare to leave the country. |
7. Hemingway's Garden of Eden
Rocking a seriously negatory 5% ranking on the Rotten Tomatoes meter, one has to assume that this is a bad film. Well, you don't HAVE to assume that, but I'm going to go ahead and do so anyway. |
8. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
Anchorman gets a new Blu-Ray release, alongside Au Revoir Les Enfants, Sharktopus, and Yi Yi (one of these things is not like the others). Note that it's not clear whether or not this new Anchorman is the same as the Best Buy-exclusive fancy edition that was released last year. |
9. Barbie: A Fairy Secret
In straight to DVD world, Barbie has a Fairy Secret. I don't think she really needs to be using slurs in the titles of her films, but what do I know. |
10. A Shine of Rainbows
Oh god, a kid makes friends with a baby seal in this Irish adventure. It won a Truly Moving Picture award, which sounds like exactly the kind of movie I want to avoid, lest I drown in treacle. |
11. Spooner
"Facing eviction from his parent's home on his 30th birthday, a socially awkward guy meets the girl of his dreams and creates his own rules for growing up." Awww, Matthew Lillard made a grown-up film! Let's all give him a round of applause. |
12. Coach
In TV releases, we have: Coach: The Fourth Season, Laramie: The Complete First Season, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Season One, Part Two, The Virginian: The Complete Third Season, Who Do You Think You Are? Season One, and WWE: The True Story of Wrestlemania. |

Everything else is a pass, but I'm enough of a Bateman fan to want to watch The Switch.
Damn straight Rorie. Damn straight.
Have you not seen SLC PUNK?
