New Releases for 09/10/10

It's either 3D zombies or indie flicks. Or, you know...football.

Hey everyone! So, as you can imagine, we were all pretty busy with yesterday's Big Live Live Show: LIVE!, and as a result, we didn't have time to film a What to Watch video for this weekend. As far as TV goes, you're either watching football, Mad Men, or the season finale of True Blood (to do otherwise would be lunacy). And movies? Well, just check out the list below to see what's in store.

New Releases: 09/10

Resident Evil: Afterlife

Rated: R
Release: Wide
This is the only wide release of the week, and I'm guessing that if you've seen any of the previous Resident Evil movies, you already know whether you want to see the same shit again, except in 3D. And if not, Rorie will be happy to tell you later if it's any good or not with his full review.

I'm Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix

Rated: R
Release: Limited
I love that absolutely no film critic can seem to decide if this movie is an elaborate hoax or not, and that some of them are getting visibly irritated with the fact that they can't decide. I have a distinct feeling I will end up seeing this this weekend.

Heartbreaker

Rated: N/A
Release: Limited
A French romantic comedy about a brother/sister duo who professionally break up people's relationships. That doesn't seem like the sort of premise that would be fraught with changes of heart and discovery of true love or anything, does it?

The Romantics

Rated: N/A
Release: Limited
A Katie Holmes romcom isn't opening on thousands of screens and to widespread critical praise? What dark, demented universe have we entered here, people?

Bran Nue Dae

Rated: PG-13
Release: Limited
I think it's a mixture of my distaste for musicals and my cold, black heart, but the trailer for this "feel good" tale of an Aboriginal boy who leaves his religious school to return home kind of made my spine curl up into a ball. I just don't think this is my kind of movie.

The Virginity Hit

Rated: R
Release: Limited
Sort of a weird-looking mix between a mockumentary and a fairly standard teen sex comedy, this does have the pedigree of having been produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. Still, not sure if I'm really terribly stoked by the trailer for this one.

I think the critics are getting mad at the Joaquim Phoenix movie because they are trying to find a reason to care.

The cover for that Pheonix movie is approximately what I would look like if left to my own devices.

I'd love to check out The Virginity Hit and I'm Still Here this weekend, not sure if it's gunna happen...

Do the Resident Evil movies even have zombies in them anymore.
Also I really want to see I'm Still Here, though I'm not sure why.

anyone else think the actress who plays alice in resident evil got a little...chubby? i mean, compare her in afterlife to the last 3 and she definitely looks different.

also the virginity hit looks fucking stupid.

Looks like another netflix weekend, although i have legitimately enjoyed the RE movies, for the just stupid fun.

Say the newest Resident Evil last night with Rorie. No one, not even the people who cosplayed enjoyed that movie. Masturbatory 3D at its worst

Kind of wish I could see Resident Evil just to see Wesker finally get his big, stupid kung fu on.

God damn I love how fuckin' looney tunes the games got with Wesker.
litrockon Sept. 10, 2010 at 9:22 a.m.
I'm really interested in I'm Still Here because I like these ambiguous movie experiments. Unlike most critics, however, I'd rather not know how real it is. As far as I'm concerned, if it remains a big, elaborate Kaufman-esque joke forever, I'll be happy.
Psykhophearon Sept. 10, 2010 at 11:57 a.m.
I'm not gonna bother with RE: Afterlife. All four RE movies spell S, H, I and T.
LiquidSwordson Sept. 10, 2010 at 12:59 p.m.
Netflix you're my only friend!
BrickTopon Sept. 10, 2010 at 9:10 p.m.
I've really been looking forward to "I'm Still Here" for quite a while now. I am really dis-pleased that it's not playing anywhere in my city (Montreal) this weekend. Hopefully it will show in the upcoming weeks.

Dig Deeper into Resident Evil: Afterlife

The fourth film in the series shepherded by Paul W.S. Anderson, taking elements from Resident Evil 5 and shot in 3D using James Cameron's Camera system.

When sushi becomes art as much as it is food, the art of presenting it on film becomes transformative not only to the cuisine, but the people who make it.
