New Riddick 3 Script And Casting Details Emerge

And they sound pretty legit. What mercs and monsters are going to show up in this new chronicle? Some spoilers ahead!

You keep what you kill, but I guess you can give away what you kill, too?
You keep what you kill, but I guess you can give away what you kill, too?

Pop culture's wheel of time turns, ever so cruelly, and I suppose we’re getting a taste of what it felt like to be a fan waiting for each installment of the first Alien movies. Seven years for the second, six years for third, and all kinds of rumors and false-starts in-between despite a sustained and fervent interest that’d seem to get sequels cranked out faster.

All the same, it’s been seven long years since Chronicles of Riddick and, now, Moviehole’s got a SPOILER-y scoop on the third movie’s script and casting call that looks quite solidly credible. It corroborates earlier reports of a plot that’d hew closer to Pitch Black's tight survival horror by stranding Riddick on a barren planet full of mercs and monsters with his eye-shined sights on his home planet, Furya. Aside from a new merc-y love interest and a kid Furyan who you probably could’ve seen coming in some form, there will be links to the previous movie with…Riddick renouncing his burdensome title as leader of the evil Necromongers, trading spots with his scheming subordinate Vaako (played by Karl Urban in Chronicles Of Riddick) and then running afoul of Boss Johns, the father of his old, dead merc-y foe Johns (Cole Hauser from Pitch Black).

The report also alludes to even more characters possibly returning. Though, I see that as a bit tricky since, outside of the "skittish" super-merc Toombs and the usurping-Necromonger Vaako couple, everybody else in the cast was quite surely axed. Plus, while I can see Nick Chinlund and Karl Urban possibly coming back, I don't think Thandie Newton would be down for it again.

I wasn't a huge fan of Chronicles of Riddick, but I did think that Pitch Black was some damn fine sci-fi. So, I'd be down to see another Riddick flick.

Chronicles of Riddick had so much squandered potential, maybe this one can live up to it.

I'd watch it.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but... does this mean we might get another Riddick video game as well?

Another "survivors on a planet" take would be interesting. If they made it more like Die Hard instead of going for that whole Star Wars chosen one thing that hamstrung Chronicles, it'd work.

Toombs would be a great addition. He gets by with a mixture of cunning and cowardice, as much a survivor as Riddick. I liked him in the otherwise miserable Dark Fury.

whats interesting is he posted a while back on his facebook that if he wanted the project to be greenlit and made within the next few years he had to agree to do the flic for free.

I kinda hope so as well, because Escape from Butcher Bay was such a fantastic game.. but Assault on Dark Athena sadly didn't live up to its predecessor and I think both games didn't sell all that well either. As much as I love the movies and Escape from Butcher Bay (easily the best movie to game adaptation ever made, imho), I would prefer more movies.

Hopefully Riddick 3 will be a success, I just love the franchise.

I thought Johns was a space cop, not a merc?

He lied. He was a merc, they found out later in the movie.

I have agree except Chronicles of Riddick was not just passable but just bad. If they have a solid director then I would be interested but otherwise not.

Well this is....news. I guess.

I loved Pitch Black but not because it was a thriller-horror scifi flick. I liked the look and the 3 lead characters. The choice at the end was pretty cool. the intro and the crash was a fun ride too.

Chronicles was alirght too but mostly because it had some really interesting scifi visuals and ideas. characters and plot where not all that interesting.

psychpunkon Aug. 13, 2011 at 2:18 p.m.
I feel like Chronicles completely negated what I liked about Pitch Black - microcosmic story in a macrocosmic world. Still excited for this though.
