You know… my reaction to this news from Vulture probably explains (on the small, personal level) why we’re inundated with “pre-aware” franchises these days. Christopher Nolan hasn’t disappointed me - - not even once - - in every movie he’s made since Memento. He’s earned my respect many times over, yet my reaction to him eying an adaptation of Citizen Hughes as his next project after The Dark Knight Rises is, well, honestly lukewarm.
If he wanted to do, say, Inception 2 or a Flash movie once he was done with Batman, then I’m sure my first reaction would be a lot more excited. It’s simply easier for a fan to get amped up about something he’s already familiar with. Take that to its macro extreme and you wind up with a summer like this, where all but a couple of the big movies are sequels... because that's what viewers get jacked-up the most about.
Of course, I remember my first thought about the Prestige was “Seriously? A period piece about magicians?!” and the flick ended up being one of my all-time favorite movies, so I’ll give the guy the benefit of the doubt. Even though I think the Aviator is still fresh enough on our minds that a movie focusing on Hughes bat-shit crazy latter years might still feel like double-dipping… I’ll trust that Nolan's got a damn good angle on it.

On board with you on that. He would probably cast Leo as well, so essentially it would be the same damn movie!

Well, didn't The Aviator focus more on his efforts in flying? This could be a prequel/sequel.
