Now Harker's at Bat Against the Bloodsucker in A New Procedural Re-Imagining of Dracula

The main character of the book is now the star of the show?

Dracula’s going down again. Deadline’s reported that the WB is putting together a new feature about the Count that does actually warrant being called a “re-imagining.” It would turn Jonathan Harker, the doomed barrister from Stoker’s novel, into a detective for Scotland Yard who’s on the bloodsucker’s trail. I’m sure Dracula putting the moves on his fiancé would make this investigation that much more personal...

Notably, this would be Jaume Collet-Serra’s directorial follow-up to next week’s " Liam Neeson puts the hurt on" flick, Unknown, and Leo DiCaprio would be one of the producers. Their last co-production was that creepy kid flick, Orphan, whose twist centered on the question of “Just how old is this lil' hellcat?”

I do seriously question how many more valid angles are left to put on Dracula, since Van Helsing and the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen have already re-envisioned the other two major humans in the story into active protagonists. However, this script’s supposedly got a lot of buzz on it and I was once highly dubious of the reasoning behind re-starting Star Trek and then had to eat all my words about it, so execution over inspiration, the proof's in the pudding and all that...

Vampires took his partner.  They took his dog.  But when Vampires took his wife, they crossed the line!  Jason Staham is John Harker in "Bite This!"

You know what this makes me miss?  The game "Harker" that was supposed to come out about...3 or 4 years ago.  The 1Up Show had a feature on it at one time and it was going to be a brutal third person action game with you as Harker hunting down vampires but it super gory and had some cool visual designs to it.  Too bad that game got canceled...for whatever reason.

Oh, and Tom...Van Hellsing wasn't really about Abraham Van Hellsing from the Dracula novel.  He is the archangel Gabriel, or some BS like that.  Yeah, it's dumb.

You know what'd be an interesting change of pace? A vampire that isn't Count Dracula or Edward Fucking Cullen.

"Re-imagining" so often seems like a complete nonsense term. If you're going to adapt a pre-existing story, but then change everything, it 's not an adaptation at all. It's more like being too lazy to fully flesh out your own story and taking advantage of the name recognition of the source material.

It's really hard for me to fight the cynicism & get excited about anything vampire related these days, I wish this film the best of luck but it's really going to have to pull out something special for me to give to a shit. If it manages to channel some of the obscene craziness Coppola had on his Dracula then maybe they're heading in the right direction.
