Great, another snubjob for Nolan not getting a directors nom... Pretty happy with everything else.
cwdawg1224on Jan. 25, 2011 at 7:11 a.m.
Although the current nominees are very good, Nolan got gipped on Best Director. I'm also glad they finally increased the number of nominees for Best Visual Effects.

Movies make me happy, Oscars make me sad.
TheN00Bon Jan. 25, 2011 at 7:19 a.m.
Well, at least they're now recognizing that Nolan's movies are good.

Renner getting a nod for his role in The Town made me happy, I felt like I was the only person that thought that he was great in it.
deyanneon Jan. 25, 2011 at 7:30 a.m.
As much as i respect their work i really don't get how the Coen brothers got a best director nomination over Nolan this year. Otherwise very good lists.
Danyon Jan. 25, 2011 at 7:32 a.m.
@mbk337 It's only five slots open, what did you expect them to choose? Inception is a fun and fantastic films but those are arguably better in direction, especially black swan, the esiting and directing is so god damn good
Mushiron Jan. 25, 2011 at 7:32 a.m.
Other than Nolan not getting nominated for best director, I'm pretty happy with all the nominations.

But will anyone explain to me why they have Toy Story 3 nominated for best animated feature? I think that if an animated movie gets nominated for best picture then it shouldn't be nominated for best animated feature. We all know who's gonna win now anyways.
AtomicEdgeon Jan. 25, 2011 at 7:35 a.m.
Would have liked to have seen nominations for Tron: Legacy, both for Daft Punk's Soundtrack, as well as Visual Effects. Looks like it just got Sound Editing though...

I hope The Social Network does well.
Mowgerson Jan. 25, 2011 at 7:36 a.m.
Chris Nolan didn't get a nom for Best Director? Fuck you, the Academy!

Scott Pilgrim didn't get a nom for visual effects? Fuck you, the Academy!
ganglyon Jan. 25, 2011 at 7:36 a.m.
@Mushir:     Obviously.    ;)
deyanneon Jan. 25, 2011 at 7:38 a.m.
@Mushir: it's kinda makes sense that since they consider it one of the best movies of the year in general and the only animated movie in that categorie that it's also chosen as the best animated feature. But yes it would be nice to see another animated movie win best animated feature, here's to hoping how to train your dragon somehow wins it
Cypheron Jan. 25, 2011 at 7:38 a.m.
Uhh, does anyone know why Toy Story 3 is in the "Adapted Screenplay" category, and not original?
mbkishon Jan. 25, 2011 at 7:44 a.m.
@Dany: I expected them to choose Nolan, obviously. I would have cut either Coens or O'Russel (mostly because hes a dick, not because of his direction). Honestly, I didn't leave those films thinking the direction was what made those films incredible; which I did for Inception.
Gahathaton Jan. 25, 2011 at 7:46 a.m.
A little surprised by the absence of Tron in the Visual Effects category.
Allure0819on Jan. 25, 2011 at 7:49 a.m.
THANK GOD John Hawkes got nominated for his performance! Very happy about that. And I agree about Nolan. Probably could have been swapped out for O. Russell
KamikazeCaterpillaron Jan. 25, 2011 at 7:52 a.m.
It's nice to see Toy Story get a nomination for best picture since that was the movie that made me the happiest last year.
Le_Samuraion Jan. 25, 2011 at 7:53 a.m.
I'm glad to see Toy Story 3 got nominated for best picture, but my question is how is it nominated for best adapted screenplay?
Jeffmoocowon Jan. 25, 2011 at 7:54 a.m.
Blue Valentine only getting 1 nom and Garfield not getting a supporting actor nom really sucks.
craigbo180on Jan. 25, 2011 at 7:54 a.m.
@Mushir:  Because it is an animated feature? If it is nominated as one of the best films of the year then surely it has to be nominated in that category as well.
