Paranormal Activity: The Chronology Edits All Three Films Into One Super-Long Jump Scare-fest

So, it'll basically be PA3, then PA2, then PA, then...?

So, here's an interesting idea: take three movies that take place in the same timeline, but were released out of order, and re-edit them together in a chronological format. It's been done before (I remember that The Godfather and The Godfather Part II got that treatment at some point), but I'm not sure precisely how well it'll work in Paranormal Activity: The Chronology, a re-cut version of the Paranormal Activity trilogy that will apparently set PA3 at the beginning, then cut to the bulk of PA2, then show most of Paranormal Activity before heading back to PA2? (Correct me if I'm off on my timeline here.)

I confess that I'm not entirely sure I see the point behind an exercise like this (although the iTunes page promises "never-before-seen footage"). I am actively pro-Paranormal Activity, but even I have better things to do than to sit down for five hours of creepy noises and jump scares. Still, if you know a sensitive soul who's avoided the films before now, this might be a good thing to lock them in the room with, if you don't mind spending 25 bucks. Currently it looks like this is only available on iTunes, and there's no rental option; only a purchase price.

This is a neat idea, but I have to wonder if the creaky noises and jump scares won't get tiresome after a few hours. If you're a big fan, then I guess this is probably the best way to experience the movies.

This is cool, but if there's gonna be a 4th one this year, whats the point of doing this now? Unless they take 4 in a different, non related bunch of characters, this is gonna be as annoying as buying trilogy box sets and the 4th is on the way.

Messes with my shelf, man.

GreatestEver99on Jan. 13, 2012 at 3:22 p.m.

Well it was available on Xbox Zune marketplace but they were making it sound as if you watch 3 then all of one then watch 2. But if it's like you say then that would be pretty cool. It is also weird that thy don't have the third one available to just rent. Only because I would like to see the third one and not have to pay 25 bucks.

Its a good idea but once you see 3 the happenings of 2 and 1 just seem like business as usual.

Artieon Jan. 13, 2012 at 4:07 p.m.

Forget five act structure, Paranormal Chronology follows a FIFTEEN act structure. I'm sure that's going to be riveting.

teh_destroyeron Jan. 13, 2012 at 5:28 p.m.

Considering that Paranormal Activity 4 is coming out this year this is kinda pointless to release something like this now. It would be better to wait until the series is actually done and then release a chronology of the films, I would totally buy that package instead.

Buttonbasheron Jan. 13, 2012 at 6:33 p.m.

So this is out BEFORE Paranormal 3 is available. I think that's pretty interesting.

TheFaithfullyDepartedon Jan. 13, 2012 at 8:22 p.m.

Any horror film for 5 hours sounds pretty unappeasing

handlason Jan. 13, 2012 at 8:41 p.m.
....but i just want to watch PA3....why not release it by itself as well dammit
Tyler_Durdenon Jan. 13, 2012 at 10:23 p.m.

This actually sounds pretty cool. The idea of them having to cleverly edit in PA1 during PA2 since they happen at roughly the same time would make for an interesting viewing experience.

Damn, I thought this one of those funky Youtube supercuts. Oh well.

Sounds like a definitive cure to insomnia.

mylifeforAiuron Jan. 14, 2012 at 3:23 p.m.

The concept of watching so many hours of PA is far more horrifying than anything that occurs within the films. Good lord.

kennyshaton Jan. 14, 2012 at 9:46 p.m.
This seems like it could be cool. Honestly, I'd probably buy it if it was just the first two. The third one will just make it way too damn long to be watchable.
jakob187on Jan. 14, 2012 at 9:51 p.m.

Is this pointless? Yes.

Just like it was pointless to release a Saw box set every year, even though a new one was going to come out...just like clockwork...and lead to another box set.

At least these guys are being a bit novel and doing something interesting with their material.

Now, imagine the seven Saw movies recut...in chronological order. O_O

Demyxon Jan. 14, 2012 at 10:18 p.m.

I like the idea of it, to recut and make 1 long movie, but I wouldn't watch it for this one.

Travisstyon Jan. 15, 2012 at 3:44 a.m.

Someone should do this for the Marvel films. I've been wanting to do it myself but I don't have the technology at the moment.

Aarny2on Jan. 15, 2012 at 6:38 a.m.

What happens when part 4 comes out?

RuneHammeron Jan. 15, 2012 at 9:45 a.m.

@Tyler_Durden:

But the family in PA2 moves the "demon" to the other sister and the movie skips like a week, right? It's a single demon after all. So this cut will cut to PA1 and then cut to the last minute or so of PA2, right?

Am I crazy for thinking that PA4 should take place in a prison, or a mental institute? Seeing as there would already be a bunch of cameras in that sort of environment, it seems obvious.

AssInAsson Jan. 15, 2012 at 11:13 a.m.

I know people who've gone to see all the SAW films in a marathon in a cinema, before the release of SAW...7 iirc?

My god.
