We're off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of Oz. The poster for Oz: The Great and Powerful was released today, and boy is it beautiful. With the masses of tornadoes and yellow brick road leading to the Emerald City, we get some pretty cool concept art. This was also an interesting choice being that the film stars four pretty major actors, but they are kept off of this first poster. I like this move as it is making it clear, that this Wizard of Oz prequel is focused on honoring the original and not just capitalizing on the stars.
The new film directed by Sam Raimi will tell the origin story of the Wizard of Oz. When a small-time circus magician named Oscar Diggs (James Franco) is whipped out of Kansas and in to the Land of Oz, he thinks he has hit the jackpot. However, when he encounters three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), he has to figure out who is good and evil and help the inhabitants of Oz in the best way he can. This is really all we have been told about the plot, and while I am usually against pre-quels and sequels of old movies, this actually sounds like it could be innovate and creative enough to work. The stellar casting of amazing actors won't hurt either.

Well the poster was released yesterday... and I uploaded it yesterday... just sayin'.
Making a news story about a poster... I can understand maybe a weekly wrap up with the week's trailers, ones that don't warrant a post of their own, and a subsection about the unveiling of posters, but not like this.
I just want what's best for Screened...

I was on vacation yesterday so sorry for the delay. I believe that posters reveal a lot about tone, etc. and can create great discussion pieces for upcoming movies. You will notice this especially if you go back to others that I have recently posted. However, I will consider if there is a better way to do it.

For pete's sake yesterday was the 4th of July! I think it's perfectly fine that you posted this today, and I'm perfectly fine with an article about a poster release. This is truly a work of art, and I didn't know about a new Oz movie until now. :)
Alright, sorry I forgot it was a holiday yesterday, non-American here.
There's only 1 Oz that I care about:
I like prequels, that's right, I said it, I'm that guy who likes prequels. And this one looks like a very interesting story that I'm surprised nobody has told yet.
Having no history whatsoever with the Wizard of Oz, I seriously thought this was about the HBO series (and went: that's a weird poster).
I still hold no interest in the movie. They are perverted the words of L. Frank Baum with this movie, and being the Oz fanatic that I am, I hate to see it happen.
For the second time in my life, I will utter these words: fuck Sam Raimi.
Metacritic recently had an article on the twenty highest reviewed directors of the past decade, and Sam Raimi was on it. I am not surprised. What he did to Spider-man was incredible, and he is a very versatile director who can bring several different genres to life. I am highly anticipating this movie.

don't worry. posting a poster a day late isn't really a big deal. Everyone can still discuss it just as well now.
