Prometheus Officially Gets a Sequel

Whether you loved it or hated it, it will be back for another round

I don't know that I can remember a recent movie that has been more controversial than Prometheus. Not because of its content, but because of the debate if it was actually a good film or not. The internet exploded with people writing about it and thoughts varied from thinking it made no sense and had a lot of problems, to being a favorite film of the year. It was fascinating to watch, no matter what side of the coin you fell on.

Now, we can all prepare ourselves for another battle in a few years. FOX yesterday confirmed that they have officially put a Prometheus sequel in development. I think we all knew this was probably coming, but now we know for sure. They are aiming for it to be released in 2014 or 2015 and have vowed to not rush the film so they will be able to "get it right".

Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender have sealed deals to return, but they will be looking for a new writer as Damon Lindelof will not be available and not be back. There is not much word on story yet, but I think we can only assume that we will see Shaw landing on and exploring the Engineers homeland.

How do you feel about this news and are you on team love it or team hate it?

I liked/loved it but I'm not sure how I feel about this. Some cool things they could show would be the xenomorphs growing as the film progresses but I think it'll be hard only having two human characters in the next one because while they were mostly useless there were some cool action scenes and deaths with the rest of the expendable crew which they won't have now.

I like Fassbender, he's becoming a pretty good actor.

As faulty as I think the film was, I'm still on board to see where they go with it -- hopefully none of it involving more Buster Keaton-esque escapes from giant runaway doughnuts.

It's not perfect, but I do love the film. I didn't know there was any question that a sequel was coming. Glad to hear that it is though.

Also, I think it's probably good to change writers. I thought he did a good job, but almost all of the things people had problems could be addressed with a different writer.

Good, I really enjoyed the movie.

Is the sequel gonna be Ridley Scott sitting in a chair for 2 hours explaining all the bullshit from the first movie.

Prometheus was one of my favorite movies this summer. I'm looking forward to seeing how this potential trilogy (I read online rumors that there were going to be two sequels) evolves, and how it ties into the first Alien film.

I really need to get around to watching the first one.

Let the man get the next Blade Runner film out, goddamn.

Eyzon Aug. 6, 2012 at 1:28 a.m.

We had it coming...hopefully it is more interesting and also not a straight sequel, like Prometheus wasn't a straight prequel to Alien..

DANG, i have to wait for it on DVD :(

It had merits, but it had a lot of faults. Most of the faults were the work of Damon Lindelof doing exactly what he did with Lost. "I want answers!" "You can't have answers!" "Oh...okay. I will follow you now for plot convince." People just accept things, they never argue about it, they never fight for it. Its the writers way of dealing with having no actual answers to give, so he brushes them off and expects the audience to go along.

Other faults are too many characters, too many "fodder" characters, and too many unfollowed plot line.

But, Damon Lindelof gone gives me hope.

I'm ready for James Cameron's Promethei.
