Sandra Bullock to star in Cuaron's Sci-Fi Gravity

America's sweetheart heads to space for Alfonso Cuaron's sci-fi thriller.

 Greetings and salutations, Alfonso Cuaron.
 Greetings and salutations, Alfonso Cuaron.
Heat Vision reports that Sandra Bullock is in negotiations to star in Gravity. The film is the latest from Children of Men director Alfonso Cuaron. Bullock looks like she'll be a lock for a role that has been bounced around from leading lady to leading lady in the last couple years. The most recent contender for the role was Natalie Portman, but negotiations with her have apparently fallen through. Other actresses once considered for the role have been: Marion Cotillard, Scarlett Johansson, Blake Lively, and Angelina Jolie, for whom it was originally set up.

According to ComingSoon.net:

"Gravity" is a 3D space film about the leader of a team posted at a remote space station. While he and a female colleague are traveling outside the space station, the other team members are decimated by debris from an exploded satellite.

If all goes to plan, this will be Bullock's first film since her award-winning turn in The Blind Side. She'll star alongside Robert Downey Jr.

I love Cuaron, and frankly, this is a pretty cool feature for Bullock to make her return to film. The less she does schlocky romantic comedies and saccharine heart-warmers the better. If you have any doubts about America's Sweetheart in a Sci-Fi, go watch Demolition Man. Right? YEAH, I thought so.

No, despite Demolition Man still very disappointed by this news. Cotillard, Portman, even Johansson would have been better choices. T'is a shame.

No....no....(Darth Vadar) NOOOOOOOO!!! I think she is charming, but she does not have the chops to carry a movie by herself.

One of my top 5 most hated actresses. I don't think I've ever liked her in a single movie.

Maybe her playing against Robert Downey Jr. will make things better...

But I did like Demolition Man's fever-dream future.

When sushi becomes art as much as it is food, the art of presenting it on film becomes transformative not only to the cuisine, but the people who make it.
