Seth Rogen Delivers Napalm-Fueled Rocket Punch To Billy Crystal's Sternum; Has Good Monologue

I don't know what that headline is about, but I like the way it turned out. Monday, folks!

Seth Rogen's monologue at this weekend's Independent Spirit Awards (celebrating all those movies that you're cool for knowing about) is really funny. That's pretty much all I have to say about it; it's worth comparing and contrasting it to Billy Crystal's fawning, don't-you-love-me-still? hosting job at the Oscars, if only because it's fun to see someone host an awards show and completely not give a shit. There's an art to not giving a shit, when you think about it; it's easy to come across as trying too hard to not give a shit, ironically, but Rogen manages to nail the tone.

This is also where you can hear his pretty wicked burn on Chris Brown (starts around 5:20) in. I wish I could say that literally, but alas, I'm just referring to a joke.

(In case you want to check out all of the winners, and guess what The Artist did well, you can do so at the Independent Spirit website.)

It's like Ricky Gervais' at the Golden Globes except actually funny.

Tomrockon Feb. 27, 2012 at 2:20 p.m.

That was awesome! He seems like such a normal guy, and probably crapping himself but he made the best of it, what a legend.

Monkeyman04on Feb. 27, 2012 at 2:21 p.m.

That was more entertaining than the whole Oscars show.

Seth Rogen. Canadian treasure. It was actually a great idea to hire him to host, not only because he's reliably hilarious, but he has a background in stand-up. This kind of goes to show that he's still got talent in that respect, commandeering a stage and audience, whilst being able to mock himself when he felt it necessary.
Mr_skeletonon Feb. 27, 2012 at 2:30 p.m.

He said fuck on an award show? Well I never!

Also this is amazing.

heatDrive88on Feb. 27, 2012 at 2:30 p.m.

I will definitely say that after watching both award shows on the weekend, I enjoyed the Independent Spirit awards far, far more than I enjoyed the Oscars, which I didn't really enjoy at all.

Arc209on Feb. 27, 2012 at 2:35 p.m.

Yeah I am not sure how he pulled off "not giving a shit" to that level but he was pretty funny...

metanoia507on Feb. 27, 2012 at 2:35 p.m.

Seth Rogan, you so crazy.

stubeeon Feb. 27, 2012 at 2:41 p.m.

His voice sound different to anyone else?

SolidOceloton Feb. 27, 2012 at 2:47 p.m.

Wow this was surprising funny

ProjektGillon Feb. 27, 2012 at 2:52 p.m.

OK, that was pretty fucking funny and if he wrote all the jokes himself, that is impressive. But it's too bad that no Oscar host would ever be allowed to do something this scathing, but I kind of wonder what Eddie Murphy would have brought to the job (even if Brett Ratner was directing).

LiquidSwordson Feb. 27, 2012 at 2:59 p.m.

Wow, he did a fantastic job with that opener! Made my day better watching this :)

Jesuson Feb. 27, 2012 at 3:28 p.m.

What's with the Billy Crystal hate? Besides the occasional forced joke I thought he was fine at the Oscars.

Vetterlion Feb. 27, 2012 at 3:35 p.m.

HA! Gotta love Seth Rogen.

Vincemasteron Feb. 27, 2012 at 3:44 p.m.

That was very funny. He should have hosted the Oscars. But honestly, I thought Billy Crystal did a pretty decent job.

Napalmon Feb. 27, 2012 at 3:49 p.m.

Because headlines can't be made anymore without being contrarian for no reason.

Yep, that was real funny.

thatladon Feb. 27, 2012 at 4:42 p.m.

Aside from a handful of good jokes that was painful, he played it off being self-deprecating but I didn't think it was good. The whole talking the awards show down was just being an arsehole, not funny.

alexpierceyon Feb. 27, 2012 at 4:58 p.m.

A bit heavy on the dick jokes, but still good.

SSullyon Feb. 27, 2012 at 4:59 p.m.

That was pretty good. He did a good job just keeping on after his failed jokes. Also I died at the Olson sister part, mainly because I had the exact same thought process when I heard there was another olson girl.

Godlyawesomeguyon Feb. 27, 2012 at 5:27 p.m.

As a long time Seth Rogen fan, I thoroughly enjoyed this.
