Having lived in Asia for ten years, I can very much attest to certain countries on that side of the Pacific having some… intriguing policies regarding media and the arts. Singapore’s standards and practices were so restrictive that the local version of Candid Camera somehow managed to be banal and harmless enough to actually make the American one look edgy by comparison. Just roll that notion through your head. And I’m sure most of you haven’t forgotten about how China’s banned on-screen depictions of time-travel, reincarnation and “bizarre plots” (among a lot of really random things.)
So, par for the course, THR has a report about Iranian TV adding new content restrictions on the showing of shirtless men, love triangles and of men and women being in close proximity in the office and/or at parties. I imagine the “acceptable distance” of the latter’s determined with the same "balloon between bellies" method used at middle school dances. Supposedly, this crackdown’s been necessitated after a soap opera had the scandalous gall to show a dude leaving his wife for a younger woman. All I'll say is that the writers of that soap are going to have a bear of time coming up with plots that don't involve at least some strand of infidelity.
Of course, you’ve got to keep the context of all this in mind and I’m sure Iran’s opposition and reform contingents are having just as big a laugh about it. Also, if the “gray market” there is anything like the one in Southeast Asia, you can be rest assured that Iranians are still getting pirated copies of media with as many shirtless men and inter-gender comfort zone violations as to please their hearts.

Source article says nothing about a wrestling exception. Disappointing. Would have been a funny situation.

...You lost me. Pinchuk has done so much stuff but he's never on camera.
You know, even with the problems America has, I couldn't imagine if censorship was as bad here as it is in other countries. I'm so glad I live here.
I find it dumb that we censor topless women. This is beyond dumb.

NGC has topless women on uncensored. Actually NGC gets away with a lot of shit that no other network does.
This doesn't make any sense to me at all, and I don't even live there!

Thats a big odd but unsurprising its Iran now really. Yea they have a lot of young people but cmon whos in charge there.
Love that this is filed under the Iron Sheik. Amazing.
Eh. Not that big a deal in my opinion.
Mohammad Rasoulof, who like Jafar Panahi was sentenced to six years of jail in 2010 for “assembly, collusion, and propagandizing against the regime", made a great documentary about the rise of satellite TV in Iran called The Dish:
It also delves into the DVD black market and the crazy dubbing industry in Iran. They dub an entire movie in one day or something.

As a woman I can say that it honestly is pretty dumb. Are our boobs just so evil? I wonder.
@TearsInRain said:
Yes.
I like to imagine that Iranian soaps just show regular groups of people doing regular things and nothing ever goes wrong.

Boobs made me kill a guy once.
@sissylion: @damswedon: Oh, very well then.
No man boobs!?

@Pickle: I could be crazy, but I'm like 99% sure he showed up for a Happy Hour at some point.

If you go on animevice he is in pretty much every non-trailer video.
He is in a lot of old videos on comicvine too...
That is true, censorship is really harsh in some places...but man boobs??? Well I guess if girl boobies are banned, it should be equal on men as well, a step towards equality!
