It's a big week for television this week, as something like a dozen new shows are all premiering in the next five days, and that's not even including stuff from next week, like Pan Am and Terra Nova. This week we're going to be amping up our television coverage by delivering a larger-than-average amount of About Last Night features, looking back at the premieres of the night before and giving you guys an opportunity to air your own opinions about them as well!
We're not going to cover every single show, and we'll definitely have some other features running this week, so let's not get too obsessed at the moment. Still, there are some things to actually look forward to; I think the clear winner for me in terms of interest is, well...Person Of Interest, if only because the notion of a show produced by Jonathan Nolan and JJ Abrams is a bit nerd boner-y. We'll see how the pilot turns out, but I'm hoping that it winds up entering with a bang and keeping up that tension. We'll find out later this week.
Some of these other series seem a bit odd, especially the decision to show Charlie's Angels at 8 PM. I guess our chances of seeing Minka Kelly in a bikini might be a bit muted if ABC is airing the show in the family slot, but I'll still watch the premiere regardless. I'm a little shakier on the new Prime Suspect, which looks like it might rely on Maria Bello wearing funky outfits to substitute for her character's personality.
Here's a list of this week's new shows, with some network boilerplate to give you an overview of each one, because damn if I'm going to write them all up individually; I already have three What To Watches to write this week, thanks! Anything strike you as particularly compelling? Gonna tune in for football and not much else?
| 2 Broke Girls Monday 9:30 CBS: A sassy, streetwise downtown girl meets an uptown trust fund princess and the only thing they have in common is that they're both broke! | |

| New Girl Tuesday 9 PM FOX: JESS DAY is an offbeat and adorable girl in her late 20s who, after a bad breakup, moves in with three single guys. Goofy, positive, vulnerable and honest to a fault, Jess has faith in people, even when she shouldn't. Although she's dorky and awkward, she's comfortable in her own skin. More prone to friendships with women, she's not used to hanging with the boys - especially at home. | |
| Revenge Wednesday 10 PM ABC: Emily Thorne (Emily Van Camp) is new to the Hamptons. She's met some of her wealthy neighbors, has made a few new friends and seemingly blends into the town. But something is a little odd about a young girl living in a wealthy town all on her own, and the truth is that Emily isn't exactly new to the neighborhood. In fact, this was once her old neighborhood, until something bad happened that ruined her family and their reputation. Now Emily is back, and she's returned to right some of those wrongs in the best way she knows how – with a vengeance. | |
| The X Factor Wednesday 8 PM FOX: In a departure from other singing competition series, the first time contestants audition for THE X FACTOR judges, Simon Cowell, Antonio "L.A." Reid, Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, they will do so in front of an audience of thousands - raising the stakes and increasing the pressure to impress not only the judges, but also a potential legion of fans. This will be the ultimate test to prove they have the vocal ability, charisma and stage presence that it takes to win an unprecedented $5 million recording contract with Syco/Sony Music. | |
| Charlie's Angels Thursday 8 PM ABC: Set in Miami, this fun, glamorous, action-packed take on the 1970s smash hit series introduces us to three new angels, all fearless detectives, head-turning beauties and close friends. There's Abby (Rachael Taylor), a Park Avenue princess who became a world-class thief. Then there's Kate (Annie Ilonzeh), a Miami cop who fell from grace, losing both her career and her fiancé. Finally there's Gloria, a disgraced army lieutenant who has a way with explosives. When one of the angels' missions ends in Gloria's tragic death, Charlie persuades them to partner with Gloria's childhood friend, Eve (Minka Kelly), a street racer with a mysterious past. They may not know each other yet, but one thing's for sure -- Abby, Kate and Eve will always have each others' backs. | |
| Person of Interest Thursday 9 PM CBS: PERSON OF INTEREST stars Jim Caviezel, Emmy Award winner Michael Emerson and Academy Award nominee Taraji P. Henson in a crime thriller about a presumed dead former-CIA agent, Reese, who teams up with a mysterious billionaire, Finch, to prevent violent crimes by using their own brand of vigilante justice. Reese's special training in covert operations appeals to Finch, a software genius who invented a program that uses pattern recognition to identify people about to be involved in violent crimes. Using state-of-the-art surveillance technology, the two work outside of the law, using Reese's adept skills and Finch's unlimited wealth to unravel the mystery of the "person of interest" and stop the crime before it happens. Reese's actions draw the attention of the NYPD, including homicide detective Carter, and Fusco, a cop whom Reese uses to his advantage. With infinite crimes to investigate, Reese and Finch find that the right person, with the right information, at the right time, can change everything. | |
| Whitney Thursday 9:30 NBC: NBC's new multi-camera comedy "Whitney" is a hilarious look at modern day love, which centers around Whitney (Whitney Cummings, "Chelsea Lately") and Alex (Chris D'Elia, "Glory Daze"), a happily unmarried couple. Together for three years, the duo is in no rush to get hitched, which seems to get a mixed response from their friends. At the end of the day, Whitney and Alex try to have a relationship on their own terms - in a world that expects a more traditional approach. | |
| Prime Suspect Thursday 10 PM NBC: The series stars Maria Bello ("A History of Violence") as tough-as-nails NYPD homicide Detective Jane Timoney, an outsider who has just transferred to a new squad where her new colleagues already dislike her. Jane is confident and focused - and also rude, abrupt and occasionally reckless. She has her vices, and rumors of a questionable past follow her everywhere - but at the end of the day, she's an instinctively brilliant cop who can't be distracted from the only important thing: the prime suspect. | |
| A Gifted Man Friday 8 PM CBS: A GIFTED MAN is a drama about a brilliant, charismatic surgeon whose life changes forever when his deceased ex-wife begins teaching him the meaning of life from the "hereafter." Michael Holt (Patrick Wilson) is an exceptional doctor who lives a materialistic life of luxury thanks to his work-obsessed career and powerful and wealthy patients; however, Michael's ordered world is rocked when his ex-wife, Anna (Jennifer Ehle), an idealistic free-clinic doctor and the love of his life, mysteriously appears to him. |

Person of Interest and possibly The X Factor. I will start watching other things based on good word of mouth.
2 Broke Girls is the worst name of anything, ever. You could name a show Moist Moist Moist Moist and it wouldn't be worse than that.
Also, Whitney Cummings is awful.
honestly besides terra nova being coming only other show id try to watch is the x factor i expect the charlies angels show to not last long
The answer is none of them!
Sadly nothing.
Never heard of Point of Interest, but the premise sounds interesting, and its a Abrams project so will have to remember that. Forgot Terra Nova is this month actually.
NONE! Looking forward to new seasons of a million other shows though.
This all looks like shit. The last thing we need is more procedural crime dramas and terrible comedies (these will probably do very well with the CBS audience though.)
Already saw too many episodes of the Polish version of X-Factor, considering my parents can't stop watching it.
No more, man!
Just looking at the name and some stuff for 2 Broke Girls, at some point the topic of prostitution has to come up. I don't know if there is something wrong with me or I have high expectations for this show.
@Meyers09: If a show involved Kat Dennings getting naked, I would definitely look at the stills and maybe watch an episode.
None.
I'l check out 2 Broke Girls and The New Girl just for some sweet Kat and Zooey action...but unless they are really good I doubt I'll watch regularly. I may check Pan Am, but it looks like a Mad Men ripoff in the sky, so probably not. Other than those most of what I want to see starts later in the year like Alcatraz. But as for returing shows really only 30 Rock and Chuck are the two.
@Pickle said:
I'll check out Person of Interest and New Girl. The former for JJ Abrams, Jonathan Nolan and Michael Emerson, and the latter for Zooey Dechanel and only Zooey Dechanel - it doesn't really look that great.
Nothing for me.
Revenge might be good most likely won't
All the otherstuff dosent have me interested
I would watch them all if I had space on my DVR...
I would probably like less than half, at least enjoy a bit more than that, dislike a more than a few. But ya know....I just watch all kinds of shows just because these days. So...whatever.
A lack of room on my DVR meant I had to prioritize and hope the rest showed up On Demand somewhere. So, the ones I am watching:
Seeing "Unforgettable" on this list made me think, "Unforgivable." And now I'm sad.
I'll probably give the new Charlie's Angels and Person of Interest a chance.
