If you went to see The Dark Knight Rises this weekend, it is likely you got to see one of two of the new teasers for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel – the new film in the Superman Legend. The two teasers feature the same footage, but there are two different voice overs. The first is Kevin Costner speaking to Clark Kent as his adoptive father, Jonathan Kent. The second features Russell Crowe as Superman's biological father Jor-El.
I must say, both started to get me all choked up and inspired. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel, but when we see Superman shoot up into the air, I realized I really am ready for another entry in this superhero story. We also got an indication that the new film is likely going to be much more serious than might have been expected as Superman films can oftentimes be campy and over the top. I must say, I got very excited to see where they go with this.

The best part was when Ironman did a fly-by at the end, breaking the sound barrier.
I don't know if "much more serious" is the selling point that is going to make this movie successful. The last Superman reboot banked mostly on that premise and was pretty boring because of it. Regardless of the tone that is chosen Man of Steel needs to be visually exciting; it needs to have action.
does nothing for me. I think over the top is the ONLY way you can make superman interesting.
Clark Kent is a fisherman?
Smallville is a place close to the ocean?
Jor-El has a bad mixture of English and American accents?
Superman is hitching a fucking ride...with a beard?
What the fuck is this?!
No. No no no no no. I understand that they want to make it their own, but Superman is not about being depressed and shit. If anything, he used the loss of his home planet and the loss of Jonathan Kent as inspiration to do right by them, to be a good and decent man as well as Kryptonian and galactic ambassador. That is what makes a good Superman story: the perseverance and willpower to see the light rather than the dark. This just looks like he's going to be a brooding angry wiener!
No thank you. The only thing that was decent about those teasers was that Snyder finally got rid of the slo-mo.

+100 points to you, sir.
I love the LOTR soundtrack, but what's Fellowship of the Ring music doing in these Superman trailers?
@Brendan: Also don't make him a stalker
@Xenozoic Shaman: I'm wondering the exact same thing.
Oh. Russell Crowe is Jor-El.
That explains the shitty accent.
Look, can't they just make an hour and a half long live action movie of The Death of Superman? Make it all action, kill him off, and don't let anyone make anymore damn movies with him. They do nothing but fuck him up anymore.
I miss Christopher Reeves. At least his Superman films were entertaining.
my interest is piqued, also wondering if rocksteady can do to superman what they did to batman, or help someone do it like nolan
Looks like an interesting take on the franchise, I didn't much care for the 1970s films and LOATHED the 06 movie.
I'll have to see more. If they use Lex Luthor as the main antagonist, I'm not interested. That's been done to death.

I am glad I was not the only one who thought that shot was rather Ironman-esque.

^This. I found it very distracting, and didn't think it fit the trailer very well.
While I am not going to go condemn a movie on a tease, some of the footage makes me afraid this is going to be yet another "dark and gritty" remake, and I am immensely tried of "dark and gritty" in general.
I'm not ashamed to say that the only reason I'm going to see this is because Christopher Nolan is involved in it. Say what you will, but whatever. And Russell Crowe as Superman's father? Er, well, uh, nice accent I guess...?

This. I was never really a Superman fan, but I liked those movies. Reeves still is/was THE Superman in my eyes.
I actually forgot they're making a new Superman movie. Huh.
Seeing as I hated every superman film made and completely loath the last one to the point of anger, I'm glad they're wiping the slate clean with Man of Steel. However, I'm still weary of the new release unless they mark the animated series as a point of influence like with Batman.

Pretty much my first reaction. For a moment I thought I was watching an ad for Deadliest Catch. Still, I like the Superman character so I'll hope for better trailers closer to release. Breaking the sound barrier was pretty cool.
Am I the only one who find it funny that both fathers of Supes have been "Robin Hood" in the past? XD
(for those who don't get it, I'm talking about Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Robin Hood (2010) respectively)
Gave me chills. Yes its the lord of the rings music and Crowe's accent is dubious, but it fills me with hope about this new superman movie. Not just because its not about another Lex Luthor property scheme, but because it looks like its exploring just what is superman/clark kent's place in the world. It reminds me of the first batman begins trailer when you saw bugger all of batman but it still grabbed you by the nuts and demanded your attention. From what little I've seen (the hitchhiking, the fishing etc) it seems they will try and develop the character rather than just have him go "I'm pretty damn fucking awesome so you know what I'm going to be a superhero so fuck you". And this is coming from someone who sees Zach Synder's name and cringes.
