In this first financial quarter of this year Netflix added 3 million new users to their services which now makes them a bigger subscription based network than HBO. That puts the service in a great position especially considering the recently released original show Hemlock Grove had more viewers than House of Cards did when it was initially released despite a gap in quality between the two. Not to mention Netflix still plans on releasing 6 or so more original shows on the service the rest of this year and even more next year. And then there is still Arrested Development coming up shortly.
Put all that together and it is easy to see Netflix isn't just a hope of the future, it is the future. HBO once thrived being tied to cable packages now seems tied down and trapped compared to the free and separate Netflix service. Not to mention the ability to incorporate a galactic ton of movie and TV content with these original programs, Netflix may be poised for more than anyone could expect.
So with these overwhelmingly positive reports from Netflix where do you think this will all go? Can Netflix compete if HBO utilizes HBO Go more and breaks free from cable companies? Is original content the key for a service like Netflix?
