This Week On The Screening Room: Star Trek

IT'S BEEN A LONG ROAD....

UPDATE: Hey everyone! Head on over to the live chat room as we'll be going live soon!

Hey guys! We took a week off of The Screening Room last week due to the Big Big Live Show: Live, but we're back this week and we expect to have a blast! And some lens flares. That's right, folks: this week's movie is none other than last year's flarestravaganza, Star Trek. I'm not going to lie: I like this movie a bunch, and consider it among my favorites of the last year. But please, don't bereave me: just check our official review!

If you're new to the Screening Room, here's the deal: you'll need to get yourself a copy of Star Trek (which shouldn't be too hard, considering it's on Netflix Streaming now) and queue it up around 3:50 PM PST today. We'll start watching the film around 4 PM and will be broadcasting our little commentary on our very own chat channel, screened.com/live.  To be clear, we're not broadcasting the film itself, just a camera feed of us watching and discussing it; you'll need to provide your own copy of Star Trek if you want to watch along. I'm sure we'll be talking about all kinds of Star Trek-y stuff, so it should be fun!

Of course, that's optional - if you like, you can simply sit around in the chatroom and talk mess about the movie. We'll also be giving a few prizes during the movie , so stay tuned for a bit of trivia during the film itself! There'll also be an archived version of the stream on Justin.tv later on, so don't fret if you can't watch along live.

Anyway, we're putting this post up a bit earlier than usual to allow for those of you out of country or Netflix-less folks to procure your own copy of Star Trek before Wednesday. Grab it, and feel free to pop into the thread below to tell us your thoughts on the film. And be sure to check out Willy105's excellent work on the Star Trek page itself!

Redon Sept. 13, 2010 at 3:53 p.m.
I just watched Star Trek Friday, but I'm totally game to watching it again. I liked it a fair bit.
Hot_Karlon Sept. 13, 2010 at 4:18 p.m.
Finally, a movie I actually own and have watched before! I can join in during this week's Screening Room...

Except that Wednesday I'm busy all day and got invited to see Catfish at a special screening, so I can't watch this with you guys.

Next time, next time.

Also I didn't make this video, but thinking about Star Trek just makes me want to sing...

Oh wow, I am always at work during these things so I never have any of the movies on me if I own them. But thanks to that random digital copy that came with my Blu-ray copy I can totally watch this on my laptop and follow along with the screening room, score!
Scrawntoon Sept. 13, 2010 at 7:55 p.m.
This is just the excuse I needed to pick up this movie.

I thought it was Diora Baird who was the green, well-endowed alien. I think IMDB is wrong.
Rorieon Sept. 15, 2010 at 12:09 p.m.
@Spiral_Stars:  I could've sworn that as well, but on the commentary track they specifically call out the girl's name from IMDB.

Not a fan of the Star Trek reboot but I am a fan of the Screening Room. Fun times!

Play the Star Trek (JJ version) drinking game: Everytime you see a lens flare, drink (you can - if you're not keen on alcohol poisoning [well, you'll delay it anyway] - limit it to one drink per shot).

The green girl is Rachel Nichols, who later starred as Scarlet in G.I. Joe.

Correct. To clear this whole thing up, Diora Baird was in the film as a hottie alien-type but her scene was cut.

I am down for some Star Trek.

SPACE!

Yeah, some magazine like mixed her up. Diora Baird is in Star Trek, but in a deleted scene.
Ronaldon Sept. 15, 2010 at 12:41 p.m.
Because there was a deleted scene where Kirk apologizes to an Orion woman on the Enterprise, and then realizes that it is a different woman. Because all Orions look the same? Is that what you're saying, Kirk?

I'm looking forward to this!

The Screening Room needs more Kurt Russel flicks, like........ Tombstone I guess? You need to live up to your site's tagline. :)
