This new trailer gives a more in depth look at the characters and plot of the film and it has still left me unsure. We know James Franco's is a Wizard who wants to do great things, and finds the chance to do so when he gets tornado swirled into the land of Oz. However, is he really the savior or a big ol' con man?
Visually it looks bright and vivid and ethereal, but also looks as if it is going in to Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland territory. I'm not sure why filmmakers have taken to resting the laurels of a film on the look and not the story. This trailer makes the story feel convoluted and I wish they would just remember that The Wizard of Oz was great because the characters and incredible story and work with that.

I'm really not sure about this one. I have a feeling that it's going to be all glitter and no structure.
Still looks to much like the Burton Alice in Wonderland both visually and storywise. Also something about James Franco just annoys me.
I like how the movie uses both academy and widescreen ratios and seamlessly integrates them together.
Looks pretty cool to me. James Franco looks good as the Wizard, and Mila Kunis has so far been awesome in everything she's been in, so that's another bonus. Hopefully it'll be the film that I was hoping Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland to be (I'm surprised that Burton himself isn't directing this, seeing as this is a film that'd right up his alley. Just trade James Franco and Rachel Weisz for Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter and I'd have definitely thought this was Burton film had the tagline saying "from the director of the Spider-Man trilogy" not appeared).
I will still hold out hope for this movie, because it was directed by Sam Raimi and he has wanted to make a movie about Oz for awhile.
FUCK. THIS. MOVIE.
As a hardcore Oz aficionado, it pisses me off to NO END what they are doing with this shit. THE WIZARD WAS A FUCKING BAD GUY COMING INTO OZ! He deceived the people of Oz with parlor tricks to become their Supreme Ruler. He had Oz written on the side of his balloon when he flew in because of his name (acronym is OZPINHEAD, so he shortened it to Oz). That's why they thought he was a great sorceror. He then ended up kidnapping the child of the king, Ozma, and gave her to the witch Mombi (who turned Ozma into a boy named Tip), which allowed the Wizard to usurp the throne and claim it for himself. He falsely ruled the people.
Granted, Baum ended up retconning all that shit because readers were pissed that the Wizard would kidnap Ozma. Nonetheless, he brought it back up later on and THAT is when the Wizard finally found redemption, as he was forgiven by Ozma after coming clean about the whole thing. Then she, Glinda, and the Wizard were the only ones in the land permitted to use magic. After that, Ozma basically turned Oz into a socialist nation, doing away with currency and equaling out all resources in Oz to the people, etc.
Nonetheless, the images in these trailers - that ain't Oz. The way the Wizard is in these trailers? That ain't the Wizard. The only one that seems to be playing a character to the way it should be is Michelle Williams as Glinda. Even Mila Kunis' Theodora is bullshit. She is sitting around all willy-nilly in the fucking dark. THEODORA IS AFRAID OF THE DARK! Also, which Wicked Witch are they referencing that he needs to defeat? If this is before Oz, then it means that he would need to be fighting the Wicked Witch of the East and failing at defeating her.
For those unaware, Evanora (don't know where they came up with that name) is the Wicked Witch of the East. Theodora...which is in the Oz books...is the Wicked Witch of the West. She has NEVER been a good witch! I can only assume that Evanora and Theodora are actually working together to complete the plot that the Wicked Witch of the East actually had with the Wicked Witch of the North and South: to take down all the countries of Oz (the East specifically fucked with the Munchkin country) and put them all into slavery for their own power-hungry needs.
Yeah...this movie is just continually pissing me off more and more. Why can't someone just make a REAL Oz movie for fuck's sake? Give it the proper treatment that it all deserves like what Peter Jackson did with LOTR.

I agree that the trailer has far too much of a Burton ALICE vibe, but let's not forget this is Sam Raimi. It is still my most anticipated film.
This looks terrible.
Like I said before, I honestly doubt this was really necessary...but since the hour is for remakes/revamps/reboots these days...
Also, it looks a bit too "Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland"-like to me...
