There has been much speculation about the new Peter Jackson film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and recently it seems people have been weary. From this moment on, any hesitance that I had about this film has vanished. Visually it looks epic and spectacular, and that is without even being able to experience the 48fps. I love the Lord of the Rings trilogy and I am now fairly convinced he was able to capture the same charm.
Thoughts? Do you agree?

It's been nine months since the first trailer was released and there's been the behind-the-scenes videos and then there's the somewhat bad press the movie has had. But this trailer just reinvigorated my excitement. I cannot wait.
I really hope Peter Jackson will be able to pull this off. Will the Middle Earth hexalogy be able to do what Star Wars wasn't?
You mean 48fps. 24 is standard.
Yea this was a good trailer. Except now with a third Hobbit movie on the way it originally splitting it into 2 films it makes one wonder if these will actually be good movies. Visually they'll be fine I never doubted that but the Hobbit wasn't originally a 3 part road show like LotR and now it is.

Yes, but it was Peter Jackson himself that argued that the story is best told over three films. I think after making the Lord of the Rings trilogy, he's earned a bit of trust. I'm sure the guy knows what he's doing.
In response to the news post, I don't agree. The controversies surrounding the films were minor, and I don't have a problem with any of them. Also I was hyped since the first trailer came out, and my excitement hasn't wavered. That first trailer is amazingggg.
I'm not sure on this trailer. It still really feels like the main thing it is saying is "Yo, you like them Lord of the Rings movies? We're making three more them. Give us your money." I never liked the idea of two Hobbit films and the announcement of a third killed much of my enthusiasm for the whole project. Is it too much to ask for a great Hobbit film and not a LotR prequel trilogy?
As for the trailer itself, the riddle part looked great, but I cringed at the appearance of Galadrial, Radagast, and Elrond's dialogue.
Those CG backgrounds are right up there with the Star Wars prequels. The characters seamlessly blend with their surroundings.

Pull it off, you crazy? Anything Peter Jackson does with Middle Earth is jaw dropping. This movie really looks wonderful.
Holy crap, I want Radagast's ride!
My biggest issue is the way that they are relying extremely heavily on CG for the humanoid creatures, namely the goblins. The reason the LotR trilogy holds up so well is their use of practical effects and costumes.

Ehhhhh that's not really true. The trilogy actually had pretty groundbreaking CG, with the huge battles and dragons and especially Andy Serkis's motion capture performance of Gollum. They did use a lot of practical effects, but they used a lot of (very good) CG as well.

This pretty much sums up my fears as well. While I have no doubt that the movies will look good, I remain to be convinced that there is enough material in The Hobbit, even with the related stuff from the LoTR appendices, to justify three films.
