I feel as if I should apologize and not comment much on this trailer as I am fairly un-informed about everything Dredd. I have never seen Sly Stallon's first Judge Dredd and have never picked up one of the comic books. I know, I know, I will go lock myself in film-lover jail now.
I will say, I am happy to see Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) in another role that is a little grittier and more sci-fi, as I was probably one of the 10 people that watched and adored her in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Anyways...I leave it to you to discuss. Love this? Hate this? Leave it alone?

Uh...REALLY hoping that last part wasn't a massive spoiler...
Otherwise, this looks AMAZING. As someone who HAS read quite a few Judge Dredd comics, this looks TITANICALLY more faithful than the Sly Stallone movie. It's a shame that filmgoers have such long memories, and that pile of (actually pretty watchable, in a so-bad-it's-good way) crap will wind up making this a flop. Then again, I'd looooooooove to be wrong about that.
The story line of the premise of the first film had so much potential, but was ultimately wasted on a terrible film. Hopefully this film is decent
So... err... did anyone else seem to see the villain getting killed at the end of that trailer? I didn't hallucinate that, did I?
Anyways, I'm in. The script is by Alex Garland of Sunshine, Never Let Me Go and Enslaved: Odyssey To The West so I'm expecting that to be top notch. The action looks great, it really makes me happy to see Lena Headey in more things and it looks like it's just self aware enough to be both not an over the top parody or a super serious no-fun mopefest. I'm looking forward to it.
And I'll get it out of the way for everyone else: Yes, it does look A LOT like The Raid. That's production schedules for ya!
This kind of reminds of The Raid Redemption, the way they are fighting in what looks like a sealed tower like building.
@jackanderson: @Acura_Max: I third that notion. It's The Raid: Redemption but with Judge Dredd.
Stop comparing Dredd to the damn The Raid: Redemption, after just one trailer.

Might turn out to be fantastic. Hopefully.
Stallone is my only true Dredd!
@Popcorn: I don't know, there have been several reports that the director was locked out of the editing bay and the screenwriter took over the project. It's also coming out in September...
So its The Raid: Redemption set in the Judge Dredd universe? Could be entertaining from an action stand point, Raid never scratched my want for gun porn. Karl Urban seems like he channeling a bat voice a lil to much but he might be good. If they do keep the helmet on what's the point of getting some one relatively known like Urban? He isn't AAA action talent expensive but seems like you could of just found some random meat head to be Dredd.
Not too shabby. Just hope the flick is a bit less super serious than this trailer. A vital part of the Dredd comics was the over-the-top ridiculousness.
And yeah, Lena Headey in a more prominent role is thrilling. Hope this is one step closer to her becoming our new Wonder Woman!
WOW WOW WOW WOW
The lines from Dredd sound so cheesy!
What...the fuck...is this?
1. The big bad guy that Dredd has to face...is a fucking drug pusher? LAAAAAAAAAAAME!
2. Why the fuck does Dredd sound like he walked out of Batman?
3. Mega City One is a place that houses 400 million people...and while it definitely seems big, I don't get any sense of overpopulation...or that anything apocalyptic has happened in this world.
4. People who are saying that the movie isn't following a story similar to The Raid and to not say that based off one trailer? Direct description from the press release going around: "Things get real dangerous real quick when Dredd and Anderson investigate a crime that leads them to the “dangerous” side of town – and, eventually, the 200-story compound occupied by drug lord Madeline ‘Ma-Ma’ Madrigal (Headey) and her forces. This culminates in all-out warfare between Ma-Ma’s clan and the Judges, who must stay alive within the criminal-infested confines of that massive infrastructure." What about that last part doesn't sound like The Raid?
5. Dredd is someone who is FEARED in Mega City One. The only thing that trailer made me think about Dredd is that I need to get him a bag of Halls for that sore throat.
Seriously, that trailer was bad. BAD! The one thing that the first movie actually did right was Stallone's portrayal of Dredd when he had the mask on. He was loud, self-assured, and no one double crossed him. He was assertive. He handled it well. When he yelled "I AM THE LAW!", he said it with authority. In this new trailer, Urban is fucking whispering it. WHY THE FUCK IS DREDD WHISPERING IN THE FIRST PLACE?! DREDD DOESN'T WHISPER!
*ugh* As a longtime 2000AD and Dredd fan, I just want...for once...to see something come along that doesn't fuck up Dredd. It's honestly NOT a hard property to do well with. There are a multitude of great stories. Do the Dredd/Death story. THAT IS WHAT PEOPLE WANT TO SEE!

Glad it's not just me.
Wait when did this happen. Had no idea this was made and it's out soon. It looks ridiculous, but man I really adore the first one. Also what a weird cast.
@gangly: I was thinking the same thing. The comics are funny, whilst retaining that insane action edge. I think the movi will need some of the lightening up to make it a real success.
I loved Sarah Conner Chronicles too! Sad that it never really lived up to what it COULD have been, but still... an enjoyable series. Needed more terminatiing! Or something... I don't know anything about Dredd though.
Looks kinda boring...to be perfectly
frankhipster about it.
