One has to admire the persistence of Genndy Tartakovsky, an animator that's gone above and beyond the call of duty in service to his craft with little to show for it but a bunch of well-regarded but poorly-viewed shows. Obviously everyone knows Dexter's Laboratory and Samurai Jack, but who remembers his pure-animation attempt at Star Wars: Clone Wars before it was re-imagined as a purely CGI feature? I do, at least. Anyway, he's obviously done well for himself, as he has a new directorial feature, Hotel Transylvania, coming this fall. It looks to be something of a Shrek for the darker mythologies of the western culture, i.e. throwing together a bunch of monsters into a hotel and seeing what would happen. Too bad Adam Sandler is along for the ride.
I would love to be excited for this movie, but man, I can't help but notice the usual spate of Sandler-ites in the cast, including David Spade, Kevin James, and Steve Buscemi. Is this going to be Grown Ups: CGI? Let's hope not, but man. Those names, all taken together, give me some goddamn chills.

My reaction to this entire article:
Headline: Boo, don't care
Mention of Genndy Tartakovsky as director: Well now i have to watch it
Actual trailer set-up and gags: Looks OK, maybe could be good
Seeing the cast list: BOOOOOOOOO
I'd give it a chance because of Genndy Tartakovsky, however the fact that Adam Sandler is involved does make me worry. I don't know maybe it'll be good for kids which will be ok in my book even if I don't like it personally. But if it sank to the level of Grown Ups humor... then god help those kids.
the trailer itself wasn't too bad, I may not immediately write this one off because of the cast.
I remember the animated Star Wars. I think it was better than the new CGI version, but Lucas refused to consider it cannon.
The movie sounded interesting-ish, until you mention the cast. Now I will run from it like it was the plague.
@woolf: Hey, I like Steve Buscemi. He's a pretty damn good actor; it's a shame he's in every Adam Sandler movie though. But yeah, everyone else is god awful.
I'm actually really interested in this, especially because GENNDY and I found out who voices whom. I didn't recognize Adam Sandler right away doing Dracula, so I feel like he's really doing a more serious character voice, rather than loud and obnoxious like that monkey from that zoo movie.
God damnit. I love Genndy, but have a real problem with A-Sand.
That's what I call Adam Sandler now, you guys. A-Sand. Catch the fever!
Definitely worth a chance. And Sony Pictures Animation is the company who made the surprisingly amazing Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, so at least it may not be automatically generic like Dreamworks' shit.
I am a bit disappointed that it's not very stylized though. There are a few shots in that trailer that really have Genndy's style, and a whole world like that but in CG could have been pretty interesting, but the rest just looks blah to me.
@woolf: Yeah, that basically describes my experience too.
Eh, I guess this looks okay, it might be a fun light hearted romp that... wait who's in it?

having seen both, i'd say no. Gennedy's Clone Wars was pretty damn sweet but the CGI one is better. It still have that fluid animation (even if it's CG). And the story reminds me more of OT then the prequels (even though it's set between 2 and 3). Mostly because they blend a lot of genres and give great characterization.
I'll probably keep my eyes on this only because it's Gennedy. To bad it isn't 2D animation. That's his bread and butter.
I like Sandler's Dracula voice and the Genndy is involved. I have nothing else good to say about it. I didn't even smile at the "jokes" in the trailer, they all fell completely flat. So yeah I'm skipping this one.
Genndy Tartakovsky was huge influence on me as a child, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
If this movie is successful, maybe he'll finally get the chance to make that Samurai Jack movie. I might have to buy a ticket, just for that.
I would've seen this movie...but then I looked at the wiki. Looking beyond the usual Adam Sandler folks in the flick, which I could tolerate if they are under the influence of Genndy, I noticed the reason I won't see it.
Fran Drescher is in it.
The most annoying goddamn thing EVER!
Sorry, Genndy.
Also, he dropped off doing the Dark Crystal sequel...for this? *ugh*
I remember that 2D animated Clone Wars series. That was the shit in my 10 year old mind.
