Chills of excitement from the first three drum beats... This is my kinda film for sure. Old westerners with gangster mentalities and topped of with the raw grit of director John Hillcoat... it's really one of those all inclusive, everything you could ask for movies and I can't wait.
Maybe it's my days of Even Stevens or that weird shreaky-scream he does, but I love me some Shia Labeouf. I've also got my "fast rising star" money on Jessica Chastain from The Help and Terrence Malick's Tree of Life. (Interestingly, Malick's also directing a Lawless 2013... Confusing right? But Malick's apparently such a fan of Hillcoat's work that he's giving him the name).
We'll also be hearing from Tom Hardy, Mia Wasikowska, Guy Pearce, and Gary Oldman. It's gonna be fun.

I'm really excited about the entire cast except Shia and he seems to be the lead, which makes me worried. Hardy looks badass though, with this and Batman, it's gonna be a good year for him.

This, in a big way.
I hold no ill will against TheBeef, but every thing I've seen him in that offered a role to really bite into, he just comes up short. Maybe, being younger, he has been trying too hard, and he's hopefully coming into his own now.
I think that problem, though, may be exasperated by how amazing the rest of this cast is. Which is a weird thing to say, I know, but these are some of the best actors working today, so when your lead is just so-so, he could easily drag the whole thing down with it.
Well, certainly not damning it just yet, just a bit worried also.

I was gonna say that... all of that.
Guy Pearce looks like he's smuggin' it up real hard.
@RockinKemosabe: Shia is clearly the but of the cast if we were playing Mark Strongs "But"
I'll admit I clicked on it for Tom Hardy and imagine my surprise when I saw Shia. Still Tom Hardy Guy Pierce and Gary "EVERY ONE" Oldman playing gangsters and lawmen count me in.
@mattman734: @gangly: Can we agree that JGL would of been better in Shia's place?
@RockinKemosabe said:
Probably, though it's frustrating when there's really only one great actor in that age group. JGL's amazing, but he can't play every role. Paul Dano's great, but he lacks the gruff attitude. Where are all the good young dudes?! (Casey Affleck?)
@gangly: Well Ryan Gosling and Ben Foster are great. I'm hoping Anthony Mackie gets more roles because I think he could be great too. He has the potential to be the next Denzel Washington.
: I feel like maybe you're preaching to the wrong crowd with the whole Shia Lebeouf fanfare thing of yours, just a heads up...
The screened community generally think he's a bit of a muppet, or at least that's been the general feeling I've gotten whenever he comes up in conversation.
The movie looks awesome though, let's just hope lebeouf doesn't screw it up.
less Labeouf and more haboobs, then we'll talk
@TorMasturba: He is a muppet! That's what I love about him... there's really no reason he's been so successful. Somewhere down the line Steven Spielberg took a liking to a disney kid and boom he's suddenly everywhere. It's hollywood... you gotta love the ridiculousness every once in a while
Wait, you forgot the most important part, the screenplay adaption is by Nick Cave, how do you go about writing a blurb for the trailer and miss that?
Really looking forward to this one. I love the time period.

For reals?? This went from looks great to must see for me.
Shia I honestly don't mind but the stories of his increasing douchiness and apparently suicidal behavior (picking a fight with Tom Hardy? Really??) sour me a bit on him but I've never minded him in movies. There's so much talent in this that even if he's only 'ok' it could still be a damn good movie. Guy Pierce looks creepy as hell.
Cast looks legit. Lets see if Shia can hold his own. I always thought he has great potential to something pretty awesome.
Also, I think I might try and pull off one of those hairstyles.
I like most of the people involved, but these kind of movies do little for me. I had the same meh feeling from Public Enemies.
When I see Shia LaBeouf, all I can think of is Even Stevens...LOUIS!
