Trailer: Oblivion

Tom Cruise stars in the sci-fi film that makes me think, no matter what you do, you don't mess with Morgan Freeman - especially when he wears little round sunglasses

I now declare today the day for post-apocalyptic trailers starring big movie stars. Earlier I posted After Earth and now it is Oblivion starring Tom Cruise as one of the last men on a desolate earth.

In this film, Cruise's character of Jack Harper is a drone repairman who's future becomes unclear when he encounters a woman from a downed spacecraft. Humanity's fate is then in his hands, but first he has to figure out what the hell is happening. He is good at doing that, so hopefully (and all of man) will survive.

For someone reason I'm getting a very Moon-ish vibe to this Jack is to generic a name. Morgan Freeman with tiny sunglasses and a cigar could lead to some good scene cherwery (I'm going to say that is a proper word).

A lot of Sci-Fi and Fantasy this year, interesting, not that i'm complaining. Tom Cruise always has the most generic character names, he might as well just be called Tom Cruise.

I actually would not mind that.

I agree, Morgan Freeman with little round sunglasses is quite a menacing sight to see.

@Dylabaloo: I see what you mean, but it's no different from Stallone or Schwarzenegger, who had similarly generic names, but were still cool. I love Demolition Man, but John Spartan is a stupider name than Jack Harper.

Either way, looks good, and I'm a Cruise fan anyway, so I'll see it (not that I see everything he's in).

I may be getting sick of Tom Cruise, but he does usually do a great job. Morgan Freeman, however, will make this worth the money.

No mudcrabs? No sale.

Dig Deeper into Oblivion

A man named Jack, one of the few remaining humans who travels down to the devastated surface of Earth investigates a crashed ship and discovers a single survivor--a woman--with information that will change everything.
