Trailer: Resident Evil: Retribution

Will They Ever Stop Making Resident Evil Films?

I feel wildly unprepared to write about a Resident Evil movie, since it is a franchise I have managed to avoid seeing up until this point. From what I can tell, Alice is a bad-ass and is going to save the world from an evil corporation that wants to kill everyone. Did I get it right? On the plus side? It does look like there are a couple pretty stellar 3D effects.

I watched the live stream with Milla this morning. She said that Resident Evil 6 (the movie) will be the last movie in "this iteration" of the franchise and that "the Resident Evil movies will continue on without me". Basically, we'll get the conclusion of the Alice story sometime around 2014, and after this they are going to reboot the thing. So no, they will never stop making those movies; too much money is being generated.

LOL it's the mummy and he got killed by zombies

Well, that looks as terrible as expected. But I gotta admit, I kinda respect that they just come right out and fucking say, "Milla Jovovich... in 3D!"

As opposed to some misrepresentation like, "This movie has other reasons to go see it than Milla Jovovich... in 3D!"

I quite enjoyed the first one, never have watched the other ones. It seems there is no reason to do so.

Paul W.S. Anderson only believes that 3D is for the throwing stuff at the screen gimmick.

So bad.

MrMazzon June 14, 2012 at 12:03 p.m.

I've only seen the first Resident Evil, it was good than they made sequels. It is a bit shocking that they have managed to take an already Ludacris series like RE and make it even more incomprehensible. This movie doesn't look good but maybe the action can save it? It can't be worse than Underworld: Awakening.

I get more confused with every new movie. Can't say i don't enjoy them though. As dumb as they are.

The_Bad_Doctoron June 14, 2012 at 12:30 p.m.

I have seen every single one of these movies and they are all bad, and yet I will still see this movie it's so bad it's good. it is actually very similar to playing a game by suda 51.

I'm oddly fond of the way they steal stuff from the games and clumsily incorporate them into the movies. In this trailer we see a random Ada Wong and bad looking Leon Kennedy and hey why not throw in Michelle Rodriguez and the black guy from the first movies who should not be there. Awesome!

ludicrous.

@drscott: That was the first option for spell check I done goof'd. Than again the thought of RE somehow being related to teh artist Ludacris is kind of funny.

Demyxon June 14, 2012 at 1:22 p.m.

Its bad. But I still like the franchise.

Aarny2on June 14, 2012 at 2:02 p.m.

I enjoy these films because they're fucking stupid as hell. Keep em coming.

altairreon June 14, 2012 at 2:59 p.m.

I find these movies highly entertaining (note: they're bad, I recognize that). So sure, I'll watch this.

dezvouson June 14, 2012 at 5:43 p.m.

Yeah, I'm with most of you as well. These movies are awful but a ton of fun. I really enjoyed the last one in particular. It was just so ridiculous and has some cool looking parts. The middle two are particularly terrible though. I'm ready for this one, looks absolutely insane hahahah.

Brendanon June 14, 2012 at 6:16 p.m.

Wait, I thought that the entire world ended in the 3rd movie or something (I remember a Las Vegas covered in sand and junk?) so what the heck happened? And when did a 5th movie happen!?

phoenix87xon June 15, 2012 at 6:05 a.m.

Can anybody say, Off the rails?

Whatever, I'm still excited. But I will say, that the next one had damn well better go to space, or the Hood. Either is acceptable.

vicsrealmson June 16, 2012 at 10:17 a.m.

I enjoyed the first two, and then it dropped off after that, but they are loads of fun if I let my mind take a vacation (not very hard to do, doesn't work very often anyway, or I would probably avoid these). I put the Resident Evil series in the same category with Doom and the Underworld series, just plain mindless fun. Although, I hope this movie isn't only in 3D like Afterlife was. I had to wait till it hit Blu-ray to see that one.

Eyzon June 18, 2012 at 1:21 a.m.

another one? again? really?

did any of you watch the last ones? how are they still making money with these!?

Beeezeron June 18, 2012 at 5:49 p.m.

How the hell would Wesker survive the shockwave from the blast?

People in these movies tend to die Soap Opera style: Kill em a few times, they come back with amnesia, trap them somewhere underground pinned-they somehow survive, then you kill them in front of hundreds of witnesses to end it. Unless of course they had an evil twin or someone made an extra handy clone just lying around....
