Spring Breakers has an image problem. The problem being that it looks like it is going to be so much different from what it looks like at first glance. If you were to just see the poster, it looks like a movie that will capitalize on the tweens that would like to see Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens in bathing suits. You might also see James Franco with a grill and some corn rows and think this moving is going to be a cheesefest.
Then you might look at who directed this movie and watch the trailer and be even more confused. Harmony Korine is best known for writing the almost too realistic look at adolescence, Kids. That association is clear in the trailer. What seems like it would be over the top fun, is much darker than expected. I'm not sure what to think about that.
It could be brilliant. It could be awful. It could be too early to decide.

This was such a weird trailer for such a weird movie. Stocked full of Disney stars desperate to be taken seriously but are parading around in bikinis for the whole movie.
Can't tell if this is some grand prank or someone trying really hard to make a film.
I... I don't... I... This... I...
What...
I...
can...
This is...
I...
I have no idea.
So the latest batch of adult(?) Disney kids make a movie about a wild spring break starring James Franco. sounds like a bland teen party film...Nope that dosen't look like a party movie. Having looked up that Kids movie that trailer dosen't seem so odd now. Getting a pulpy Oliver Stone-ish vibe from this.
Took me a second to realize that was James Franco.
You're right this looks like a movie that might either be great or just crash and burn hard.
Two seconds in and this trailer makes me feel like I've just been put on the governments watch list. Also, I'm pretty sure my IQ just dropped a few points.
I sincerely hope that the french subtitles aren't the result of some weird trailer stuff and that the entire movie is subbed in french for no goddamn reason.

This all the way.
Dear god yes.
What did I just watch? Y''all?
I hope they keep the French subtitles. Makes it seem more like "art."
I love Sex, Drugs and Alcohol, but this is just another dark side of life movie I can skip!
I'm surprised that people are so baffled by this trailer. Do people really not know who Harmony Korine is? This is far from his weirdest film.
I don't really have any opinion, I just want to say that I love that song and was pleasantly surprised to hear it in a trailer.
@Cynically_Happy: @Tylea002: Since this is the international trailer, there's a good chance that was done on purpose so they could advertise to other countries.
There was also another trailer that was released today. This one has flashes of what looks like a serious drama, but it still looks like a party movie.
Yeah, maybe it's just because this type of movie really isn't in my wheelhouse to begin with, but I'm leaning towards "awful" and "cheesefest."
Wow. That's all I'm going to say on the subject. Are we sure Zack Snyder didn't get his sequel to Sucker Punch here?
After that trailer, I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.
I probably won't be seeing this, though I do like some of the actors.
I don't actually want to write it off this quickly. I am not anticipating this movie, but I think it has potential.
That said, I am disgusted by the fact that the only way people will be able to look past a child star's origins and take them seriously is by having them take roles as slutty and provocative as possible. I don't blame Gomez or Hudgens for wanted to further their careers, but it is still kind of a pity that they all have to do this.
That...was a very bizarre trailer. I have a feeling that this movie is going to be way too serious, bizarre, and disturbing at the same time.
Pretty much my thoughts exactly! I'm dying to see it, though. It's one of those "if this sucks, this could really suck, but it might be incredible" kind of films. It helps that I think Selena Gomez is a total babe. (Also, she's like, twenty years old now. Plenty of people will want to see Gomez and Hudgens in bikinis that aren't tweens.) Not to mention this movie's gonna be a hard, hard R, no matter how dark it is. It's listed as Rated R for "strong sexual content, language, nudity, drug use and violence throughout." It is certainly not aimed at "tweens."
I will give it a go, this could be awesome, this could be Britney Spears "Crossroads". Can't wait to see.
No image problem here. Knowing Harmony Korine's work, trumping expectations should be expected. This is the director that brought us Trash Humpers and this Die Antwoord short film http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMVNjMF1Suo.
