TV Critics Are Smart Enough to Recognize Community

If only it will get people to start watching. Please?

Finally some television award nominations I can truly get behind. The Emmy awards always get it about half right, with Mad Men winning Best Drama, and Game of Thrones, Dexter and Boardwalk Empire being nominated, but they always leave Community out of the Outstanding Comedy Series category. The nominations for the Critics' Choice TV Awards came out today and FINALLY a group of people were smart enough to recognize the spectacular comedy. In fact, bringing in 6 total, it was the most nominated show. Joel McHale was nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy Series, and Danny Pudi and Jim Rash were both nominated for their supporting roles. Alison Brie received a nomination on the Female Supporting Actor side and the show was nominated for Best Comedy Series. It has some stiff competition with Parks and Recreation, which I think had a stellar season, but I'm hoping Community can finally get some of the awards that it deserves and maybe, just maybe more people will start watching (even though it's Friday night death time slot might make that difficult). I also was pretty stoked to see Louis C.K. on the list, because Louie is just goddamned funny.

On the drama side, Mad Men and Breaking Bad tied for the most nominations with 5 each. And while Game of Thrones only had 2 (Best Drama Series and Best Supporting Actor) I was thankful that Peter Dinklage was on the list, because they should just stop everything and give him the award already (even with the tough competition from Aaron Paul, John Slattery, Neal McDonough and Giancarlo Esposito).

The awards will be given on June 18th, and whether or not Community actually wins, I'm glad someone has recognized how much fans love the show.

Cool. Cool Cool Cool.

You can say that the Critics Choice is 'streets ahead' of the competition.

The Emmys always get something right after it's gone, or at least after it's done being awesome.

They are streets ahead at least Community might get some sorta recognition.

The best supporting actor category is bananas... just give them all statues.

It's about time. Also glad to see Nick Offerman getting a nod too, as Ron Swanson is easily one of the best characters on TV.

Pretty good list of nominees. Would've hoped to see some Awake in there (at least something) and some more Happy Endings (it's a lot better than Big Bang Theory, that's for sure), but I guess I can't have everything.

But TV Critics don't end up making up the ratings that keep the shows on the air *stares at the gazillion bland generic and plain bad reality TV*...sigh...

I am loving all the nominations for Community. It's a shame NBC decided to fire Dan Harmon. Adventure Time has been nominated for an Emmy? Surely that must be a joke. Young Justice is more deserving of a nomination I think.

Hadoken101on June 6, 2012 at 8:18 a.m.

As happy as I am to see Community finally get some recognition, I can't help but feel that it's too late with Dan Harmon being fired from the show and the replacements' past work not inspiring much hope.

VioletEyedDragonon June 6, 2012 at 9:35 a.m.

i am nervous about seeing this show since they just fired the creator.

Community, Parks & Rec and even Happy Endings all getting some form of recognition is pretty great. Good reminder that I need to check out Archer...

AlKusanagion June 7, 2012 at 9:51 p.m.

Why isn't Maisie Williams nominated for best supporting actress? She's phenomenal on Game of Thrones.

DoctorSageon June 8, 2012 at 7:41 a.m.

Just give everything to Breaking Bad and Community, I mean really. 'Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series' should just be renamed 'The Aaron Pauls'.
