UPDATED: Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Role in The Dark Knight Rises Confirmed (Or Maybe Not?)

Speculation had been rampant in regards to Jiggle's involvement in Nolan's latest Batman, but now the cat is out of the bag.

UPDATE: Citing those always nebulously pesky "sources," EW is saying Jiggle is definitely in the movie, but not as Falcone. Who is he? They don't know. We don't know. Nobody knows anything. Ack.

While it isn't news that Joseph-Gordon Levitt (or "Jiggle" as I'm contractually obliged to refer to him if i want to continue working at Screened) would be joining the already stacked deck of a cast for The Dark Knight Rises, it has yet to be confirmed what role he'd be playing. Until now, that is!

Variety is reporting that Jiggle has now officially closed a deal with Warner Bros. and Christopher Nolan that will see him join a cadre of the film's villians: Tom Hardy (playing Bane), and Anne Hathaway (playing Catwoman). While it had been popularly rumored a while back that his villainous role could be that of The Riddler, Nolan has cast JGL as Alberto Falcone, son of Batman Begins' mob boss Carmine Falcone ( Tom Wilkinson). Fans of the comics will also know Falcone as "The Holiday Killer", a serial killer who murders Gotham's criminals.

The original story also mentions Juno Temple's possible addition to the cast as a street smart Gotham girl, but nothing past that is known at this time. The big news here is clearly Jiggle's confirmed addition, and in a role that seems more fitting into Nolan's aesthetic: that of a more believable, realistic villain rather the cartoonish baddies seen in the 90's movies.

At this point, I can't foresee there being any possible way to further pack any more anticipation into this movie through casting. It's a full house, or a royal flush, or whatever is the better hand in poker. Can we just all start mailing Chris Nolan all of our moneys now?

Really can't wait for the new Batman film. Levitt was brilliant in Inception, so it will be good to see him in anther big film.

Love the casting for this; should make this film very interesting. It would be kind of crazy if Juno Temple was a Robin of sorts.

So it's going to be The Long Halloween minus Two-Face? I'd watch that.

But wasn't it actually
who did most of the killings in The Long Halloween or was that just my reading into the final pages?

Wait, so there's a "Holiday Killer" AND a "Calendar Man"?

DC is dumb.

When do serial killers ever have bad ass names (besides Dexter Morgan)?
MisterMouseon March 21, 2011 at 10:50 a.m.
cant wait for this movie!!!
HT101on March 21, 2011 at 10:54 a.m.
@Delta_Assault: That's what I thought but I really enjoyed the story.  It was an excellent deconstruction of Batman and what he goes through every day as well as showing the toll it takes on him.  Dark Victory was also great since it showed the re-origin of Dick Grayson as Robin.  Of course, that was when Jeph Loeb was still a good comic writer and not an idiot like he is now.  No wonder they moved to put him in charge of TV.

@Axxol: I was about to agree with you, but a Google search just brought me to this. I imagine the FBI is closing in on me as we speak.

Marion Cotillard will be playing Talia al Ghul. I'm calling it. And she will be Bruce Wayne's love interest and she'll give him a child.
TheHTon March 21, 2011 at 11:22 a.m.

a serial killer who murders Gotham's criminals

Gotham city's own Dexter? Played by Jiggle??! Fuckin yeah!

SolidOceloton March 21, 2011 at 11:30 a.m.
@AuthenticM:  100% agree with you no way Cotillard wont be in this movie as Talia at this point
Inception Rises would be a more apt title, cant wait for this movie
Kyleon March 21, 2011 at 11:42 a.m.
Aw man, Jiggle as The Riddler would have been SO AWESOME!!
MrMazzon March 21, 2011 at 11:47 a.m.
So are they just going to have him murdering people as a sub plot than? they have Albert Falcone, Talia Al Ghul and BANE so unless they form some sort of super group of evil to take out bats that is a lot of villians

it would be cooler to have them working unbeknowst to eachother and just causing hell
superscatmanon March 21, 2011 at 11:58 a.m.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt looks like Heath Ledger

I'm really excited that Levitt is playing Alberto Falcone, but I highly doubt they will make him into "The Holiday Killer" in this film.  Still, he's the perfect choice for that character.

Is Marion Cotillard still rumored to be in TDKR?
