Viggo Mortensen Being Considered for General Zod in Superman Reboot

Mortensen and Kevin Costner are both reported to be heavily favored for roles in Zack Snyder's Superman reboot.

 KNEEL BEFORE VIGGO!
 KNEEL BEFORE VIGGO!
The world really needs this Superman re-reboot to not be terrible. I think we've earned it, don't you? Well, if the report from Heat Vision is to be believed, it sounds like the film might be gaining some Class-A talent in its lead villain slot.

Superman producer Christopher Nolan and director Zack Snyder are reportedly focusing their x-ray vision on the gentleman poet Viggo Mortensen to play the role of General Zod. You may remember the character from Superman II, when he was played by Terence Stamp and sported that FAAAAAABULOUS v-neck S&M costume.

Mortensen has become the go-to leading man in the 2000's, and rightly so. Some may recall that before his rise to worldwide fame in The Lord of the Rings, Mortensen was known to play the heavy from time to time, and played it well. I'm always a fan of actors taking roles against the type they've been cast into, so seeing Mortensen play a bad guy is really exciting, especially given it would be in the role of Zod.

Another big (albeit far less exciting) name being considered for a role in the film is Kevin Costner. The role in question is that of Superman's adoptive father, Jonathan Kent. Costner's not a guy with what you might call a "range", but history has shown he can pull off that down home one-dimensional farmer type well.

As we get closer to production, more such casting rumors will be flying pretty hot and heavy, so stay tuned.

I hope Costners in it just because Costners never in anything anymore.

I approve of this casting were it to happen.

As long as Nic Cage gets to be Superman, I'll be happy.

Almost proud of being Danish right now, Viggo continuing landing good roles/being considered for them, and Susanne Bier winning an Oscar yesterday, good stuff. That said, most Danish movies are horrible, the good ones however, are really good and usually find themselves being remade in other languages.

He looks like Vigo from Ghostbusters II in that picture.

Whoa, uhh...stick with the beard, Viggy.

There is no Zod, there is only Viggo!

Viggo is the man. I don't know why he's not in more stuff. Him as Zod sounds perfect.

Viggo as Zod is inspired casting.

So can we expect an ass bruising sex scene with Ursa? That's after he murders a bunch of earth soldiers in a cafe with a coffee pot for refusing to kneel.

I thought Nolan was no longer involved??

I remember when Viggo loved me more than Jesus.  Or was that Elias Koteas...

It seems like hackwork to literally reuse the same enemy from the only good Superman movie, that was created for that Superman movie. As opposed to the dozen of other superpowered villains never even attempted. But then, its Snyder.

I'm surprised they're trying to resurrect the Superman franchise despite the apathy behind the last movie. Well if they are going ahead, they can do worse by hiring Viggo.

Whilst I'm here...
