Screened News

What To Watch: July 20, 2010!

This week'll be easy on your pocketbooks, kids.

Hey guys! It's Tuesday, which definitely means that it's time to go buy some DVDs. Or, you know, not. It's pretty slim pickings this week. Unless you really, really want to buy Cop Out.

DVD Releases

1. Cop Out

Lie bot, what's the saddest thing about Cop Out? Could it be the fact that this is screening at Comic-Con in "Maximum Comedy Mode"? With Kevin Smith and Seann William Scott "enhancing" it? Yeah, that's probably the saddest thing.

2. The Losers

Alex sure didn't like it. I dunno, Zoe Saldana with guns? Can we really trust this Alex character?

3. Mother

Alex sure liked it. I dunno, this was directed by the guy who did The Host, which was pretty bad. Can we really trust this Alex character?

4. The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers

Gripping, thrilling action leaps across the...ah, hell, this seems like a pretty important subject. Maybe I'll check it out when it inevitably pops up on Netflix.

5. Prodigal Sons

So a filmmaker comes back to town ready to out herself as a transgender lady and re-connect with her estranged adopted brother, who might be the grandson of Orson Welles. Pssshshs, that's so farfetched...oh, it's a documentary.

6. The Runaways

Girls making out, I guess. There's that.

7. Cats & Dogs

I think I'm in line to review the sequel, so I guess I need to rent this and make sure that I'm up to date on the thrilling exploits of...schnauzers.

8. Evil Aliens

Not many movies have official descriptions that detail alien impregnations. Nor do many have the balls to call out Phantasm, Aliens, Dead Alive, and The Evil Dead and claim to be their "successor". So, yeah. Try and top that.

9. 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams

This movie has awesome ratings on Amazon...from a bunch of people who have only written one review on the entire site. So yeah, it's gotta be good!

10. Just Another Day

Marlo from The Wire is a rapper. Someone named Lamar "Lamar" (sic) says it "Doesn't get any more real than this" on Amazon. Take it from him, I guess.

11. Black Narcissus

Also out this week: Being Human: Season One, Forbidden World, Galaxy of Terror, Margot, The Red Shoes, Tin Man, Matlock Complete Series, Courage The Cowardly Dog: Season One, Degrassi: The Next Generation: You're Not Reading This Anyway, Desperate Romantics, Ground War, Jersey Shore Something Something, Look Around You: Season One (buy it!), My Boys: Second and Third Seasons, My Bride Is A Mermaid: Season One, Part One, Seriously Funny, and Super Friends!: Season One, Vol. Two.

Been waiting to see Mother since I found out it wasn't playing near me. Loved A Town Called Panic when I saw it earlier this year. It's such a fantastically enjoyable and absurd comedy.

I remember watching Cats & Dogs when I was younger. I hated the shit out of that movie. I'll still probably hate it.

I like most of the USA shows... There is a definite common template that applies to Burn Notice, White Collar and Cover Affairs.

I'm a film major, and another kid who has the same major thought Cop Out was one of the best movies this year. He also thought the same about Grown Ups, Alice in Wonderland, and The Sorcerer's Apprentice. No joke.

Rorie, if you have to watch the original Cats & Dogs, you have to make Alex see it and have it be a Viewing Party.  Less that I want a Viewing Party out of it and more that Alex would fucking hate having to see Cats & Dogs.
