What To Watch: The Summer Season Finally Fades Away

A little less reality, a little more scripted? Can a guy hope?

Aw, they're using a Flipcam! How quaint.
Aw, they're using a Flipcam! How quaint.

We're finally getting into the thick of things - finally, finally, finally! The network premieres are ramping up, and while tonight only sees a few shows starting up, next week will finally herald the real premiere week madness that we've been looking forward to for so long. Tonight? Well, we have Survivor, which I'm mildly surprised is still on the air, but we also have the premiere of Up All Night and Free Agents. If you had told me Christina Applegate would still be working 25 years after Married With Children, let alone be one of my favorite comedic actresses working right about now, I'd have called you a crazy sonofabitch, but damn if it isn't true.

That doesn't mean I'll be glued to my chair watching Up All Night or anything, now. I'm still a wee on the young side to enjoy those oh-being-a-parent-is-so-rough shows, or perhaps my childlessness simply prevents me from finding them all that amusing. I hope it's a success, though.

America's Got Talent

NBC 9 PM: SEASON FINALE! Finally, one of the talented acts wins a million dollars and a headline show in Vegas. You can tell they're talented because of the name of the show.

Big Brother

CBS 8 PM: SEASON FINALE...I think? "The jury questions the finalists and votes for the winner." I hope that means that someone wins and I can stop writing about the Power of Veto Competition every week for the rest of my life. How exactly do you win Big Brother, anyway? Not be spied on as much as everyone else?

Deadliest Warrior

Spike 9 PM: Two episodes back to back feature the French Foreign Legion vs. Gurkhas, then a 90 minute look at vampires vs. zombies, because hey nerd boners.

Top Chef: Just Desserts

Bravo 10 PM: Oh hey, it's a tribute to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory! The contestants have to make a "Pure Imagination Room" where everything must be edible, and stars from the film make guest appearances. I don't think I could name a single one of them aside from Gene Wilder, though.

Necessary Roughness

USA 10 PM: Terrell Owens guest-stars as a rival player as the Hawks enter the playoffs in the season finale. I guess that's something to watch. You know, if you want to see more Terrell Owens instead of less.

Survivor

CBS 8 PM: SEASON PREMIERE! Survivor: South Pacific kicks off with 18 castaways in Samoa. I want to see them shake things up a bit and do Survivor: Des Moines or something like that. "Can the 20 cast members survive when they're laid off from their construction jobs?", etc.

Up All Night

NBC 10 PM: I genuinely like both Will Arnett and Christina Applegate, so I hope this show does well for them, even if it looks like Yet Another Parenthood Comedy: The Show.

Free Agents

NBC 10:30 PM: On the other hand, I loathe Hank Azaria and Kathryn Hahn with a passion, and hope this show fails horribly, preferably to the point where they never work again. I kid - they're fine. But again, this doesn't strike me as much more than another workplace romance comedy, even if it amps up the sexual aspect of things. Hope I'm wrong!

Is it me, or does that babies legs not align with its body, on the Up All Night poster? O.o

Also, that's a crap list. Not a single thing on today that I like. :( lol Tomorrows got a good schedule at least though.

Why Hank Azaria? Why??

You forgot H8R! And by forgot, I mean probably purposefully left out for our mental health and general wellbeing.

Yep, TV is still shit.

Well, seeing as how it's ...1:04 am, I definitely missed out on all of this! I cannot be helping NBC's ratings too much, huh? I'll try and check out Up All Night sometime. Maybe a few episodes down the road since pilots - especially for NBC shows - are almost always sh*t. But c'mon; Maya Rudolph AND Christina Applegate!?! I GOTTA check that out! Even if it also has Will Arnett:(

You should've just made them a lesbian couple who have adopted a kid, NBC. The whole "gay couple" thing worked out pretty well for ABC with Modern Family - you can beat them to the punch with a LESBIAN FAMILY though! And lesbians - especially if they look like Rudolph and Applegate - are soooooooooo much better than gay dudes.

...

I think I just set myself up for disappointment:)

@Sek0n: GAH, MAKE IT GO AWAY!!!
