Happy weekend everyone! And for once, it actually is one for those who like to partake of the screened entertainment. Lots of new movies this weekend, and some relatively decent TV as well! No sense in fooling around. Check the vid for everything, and look below for just the plain old movie lineup. Woot!
New Releases: 09/17
| The Town Rating: R Release: Wide You can find our review right here, but the short version? It's a really excellent heist flick, and a nifty, gritty piece of blue collar crime drama. Who'da thunk the star of Gigli would turn into such a solid director, eh?
|
| Devil Rating: PG-13 Release: Wide As much as the whole "from the mind of M. Night Shyamalan" thing has been particularly groan-inducing, there's a part of me that thinks this looks like a pretty neat, stupid horror flick. Maybe it's good? Look for our review later today.
|
| Easy A Rating: PG-13 Release: Wide We all know how much Rorie loves Emma Stone, and the trailers have looked at least reasonably amusing, so maybe this one's good! You'll get to see exactly what Rorie thought later today.
|
| Alpha and Omega Rating: PG Release: Wide Yay, a crappy looking CG-animated "family" comedy that's all about talking animals boinking...or, at least, trying to boink. The animation looks positively crusty, the voice cast ain't exactly top-flight, and the reviews have been pretty rancid so far. I'm gonna go ahead and say this might not be the movie to see this weekend.
|
| Catfish Rating: PG-13 Release: Limited Go watch the trailer if you haven't already. Most people seem pretty sure that this movie isn't quite as "true" as it's being made out to be, but the critics have been pretty well captivated regardless. I'm pretty curious to see if it lives up to the hype.
|
| Never Let Me Go Rating: R Release: Limited Mark Romanek returns from directorial exile to helm this adaptation of the acclaimed Kazuo Ishiguro ( The Remains of the Day) novel. It looks absolutely gorgeous and completely fascinating, but I also think the trailer is mayhaps a little over spoilery, so I'd skip it if you haven't seen it yet. Given the pedigree of talent on display, that ought to be enough to get you out to the theater to see this. I know I really want to.
|
| Jack Goes Boating Rating: R Release: Limited Philip Seymour Hoffman's directorial debut has gotten some pretty decent reviews coming out of the festival circuit, and I think it looks like it could be a nifty little indie romantic comedy. It won't play outside of LA or New York for at least another week, but it seems like it's worth keeping an eye out for.
|
| Leaves of Grass Rating: R Release: Limited This stoner comedy from Tim Blake Nelson, which features Edward Norton playing twin brothers, has been delayed a couple of times already, but it's finally opening in limited release this weekend. Been dying to see this for a while, but it'll still be a bit before it makes it San Francisco way. If you get a chance to see it this weekend, tell me how it is!

doesn't matter cause boardwalk empire starts sunday
WHAT WAS THE TV SHOW! You never said what it was!
You've got to be dogging me. That's ridiculous. Yet, maybe it's the best aspect of the the film. The tagline, I mean.
God, I wish I had HBO sooooo bad much now. Boardwalk Empire looks like the best thing since The Wire. Aside from all the rest of the awesome talent involved - Buscemi and Scorsese? Awesome! - Kelly Macdonald is in there! She only has to say a few words with that voice of hers and *insert picture of Andy Samberg's jizzing-in-pants face.*
Word.

Was "Who Let the Dogs Out" featured in the trailer? My memory says yes, but I refuse to verify that belief by watching that trailer again.
YAY Boardwalk Empire
