When God Closes A Door, He Opens A Dress: Mad Men Begins Streaming On Netflix

No, I don't know what that quote has to do with anything, either.

"You&squot;re telling me people watch television over the Internet? ...what&squot;s an Internet?"
"You're telling me people watch television over the Internet? ...what's an Internet?"

As someone who's only fitfully watched episodes of Mad Men, and is a bit intimidated by the notion of tuning in for season five without knowing what the hell happened in any of the previous years, color me a bit relieved: all four seasons of the critically-acclaimed show are now available to stream on Netflix. Maybe that'll soothe a bit of the frayed nerves from last week's announcement of Netflix's impending price hike, eh?

The specifics of the deal were announced earlier this year; Netflix immediately gains access to the first four seasons of the show, and will then add seasons five and six after they're done airing on AMC. This won't be a episode-by-episode airing; the seasons will be added in their entirety, after they've completed their run on AMC, so look forward to season five on Netflix sometime next year.

I'm still probably more excited to watch through Deep Space Nine again when it hits Netflix in October, but for the moment, a little Mad Men will probably go a long way to remedy these summer doldrums we're experiencing. The show's already been available in Canada on Netflix for a while, but it looks like it'll now be on U.S. streaming for a few years to come. Hope you didn't buy a box set last week or anything.

That's good news for me.

Almost makes me regret buying all four seasons on DVD, but they do have some great extras on them, and this'll make it easier to convince friends to watch one of the best show on TV.

Awesome news - I've seen all of the episodes but it will be nice going back and watching some of the standouts to hold me over till next year.

I've been wanting to get into this show for sometime now and thanks to Netflix I can.

Great opportunity for those (like Rorie) to finally get caught up on the show.

No more excuses for not watching arguably the best show on TV for the past few years.

I'm confused. Madmen was the first thing I watched on Netflix streaming Canada when I got it, which is when Netflix first came out. Is this a deal refresh, or did the states not have the show?

There are a lot of good things said about Mad Men. I can finally see if the talk is true. Past AMC show experiences indicate that I will like it. Still enjoying Star Trek Voyager a whole lot more than the first 4 seasons of The Next Generation.

@Brendan: They just didn't have it. I have to say it felt nice to have something they didn't for once!

Another show that I need to watch and it's now on Instant Streaming? That makes my life so much easier.

Sweet! I was wondering when this would happen. I was in the middle of renting the discs from Netflix when it was first announced.

Mad Men is probably the single most stylish show on TV.  And I do like a lot of the characters.

It's not exactly the most compelling plot-wise but I think everything else about it carries it through.  I just...no, need to know more about Don Draper
StrainedEyeson July 27, 2011 at 1:45 p.m.

Now if they could just add the other AMC shows (Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, etc..) then Netflix would be even more awesome.

Well it's good that they finally got it, because even when there wasn't much else of interest on the service I thought it was well worth it just for Mad Men alone!

Never watched the show, am definitely excited to see it.

I watched all four seasons on Netflix. It's a good show, but I think I got caught up in a lot of the hype before I watched it and was a little disappointed. People definitely over-sold it to me. But there is some solid acting and an interesting gender study of the 60's. I'll probably continue to watch when season 5 airs...whenever that may be.

Dig Deeper into Mad Men

Mad Men follows Don Draper and his many co-workers and superiors of a Madison Avenue advertisement agency in the 1960's.
