Woody Harrelson's Rampart: The First Five Minutes

AKA "The movie that no one on Reddit will ever pay money to see now."

If Woody Harrelson's little AMA faux pas on Reddit last week proved anything, it's that we can all still get a laugh or two out of people who don't know what the internet is about. Still, I've heard good things about his performance as a lowlife cop in Rampart, and now we get five minutes of the film to check it out for ourselves. Damage control? Perhaps, but at least it's free entertainment. Rampart is opening in limited release this weekend.

Kinda wanna see what he said on Reddit now despite the fact I normally avoid that site.

Kind of want to see this just to spite Reddit now.

He thought 'Ask Me Anything' meant ask him anything about his new movie. So he didn't want to answer personal questions about his life, and Reddit users got all pissy. Because they're all 12 year olds, apparently.

@privateirontfu: Oh damn, I just lost more faith in humanity and the 12 year old children of the world XD

Do I win a medal for still not knowing what Reddit is? I hear it all the time, and I'm proud I've never bothered to research what it is.

So basically Woody Harrelson is a typical celebrity and normal adult that does not know how everything on the Internet works, wants to discuss his work because celebrities are kind of boring to talk to unless they're doing something, and does not want to get into the rumors of possible questionable behavior in his private life?

LOSING FANS BY THE SECOND IS RIGHT!

If you win a medal for not knowing what reddit is, than I deserve a small trophy for not knowing who Jim Sterling is.

Reddit is an online aggregate site. People post links to things all over the internet, mostly pictures from their own lives. It's a mindless, but addicting site. The issue with Woody's AMA came from standards previously set. Woody just didn't know how AMA works. He did it wrong. Since you admit you don't know what reddit is, criticizing it is fairly stupid.

Martin_Blankon Feb. 10, 2012 at 3:35 p.m.

But when he was asked about stealing a high schooler's virginity, that's when the chat really went awry.

What a bastard! Does he not comprehend the POWER reddit wields?! He'll be homeless within a week!
brainwinson Feb. 10, 2012 at 4:50 p.m.

If the movie loses audience over the dumb e-drama on reddit, it'd be pretty fucking pathetic. Come on, people!

Sootyon Feb. 10, 2012 at 5:45 p.m.

Woody Harrelson killed my father, he also posted a shitty AMA on Reddit.

Fuck that guy.

(and yes, I'm kidding, jeesh)

At least those 12 years old know what AMA is meant to be. You obviously don't.

A lot of people seem to irrationally dislike Reddit. That site is what you make it, if you can't find a few subreddits with stuff that piques your interest then fine, but I'm guessing a lot of you haven't even tried. Some of you people just seem to hate fun or want to hate on what's popular on the web.

The fact that Reddit users can be total entitled dicks isn't even under scrutiny, but COME ON.

If Woody's first response to something called "Ask Me Anything" is "oh, this must be something where I only answer questions about one specific thing," then I think he might be advocating the legalization of marijuana just a liiiiiittle too hard...

Exactly. The subreddits are what make Reddit powerful.

Woody Harrelson is a very talented actor, that didn't understand the spirit of an AMA. Sure he got chastised by a few users, I'm sure most people just had a good laugh. The clip was pretty good, why the fuck would they censor it?

I know what AMA is supposed to be. But to get pissy when somebody clearly doesn't is childish. You obviously don't seem to understand that.

Haha, yikes! Even though I said I don't know what Reddit is, I kind of figured it could only be a couple of different things (because the Internet can really only be a couple of different things these days, anyway), but thanks for the definition that I specifically never asked for. Some dumb social media blah blah blah...got it!

I wasn't criticizing the (apparently) golden standards of the "classic" Reddit AMA feature -- I can gather what "Ask Me Anything" means without knowing the history of Reddit -- but more for the fact that people are "losing respect" for some half-baked, out-of-touch has-been (hyphens!) who hasn't been relevant in 15 years and who doesn't care about looking into every single interview that he does because he's a self-absorbed asshole (like every other celebrity in the history of celebrity). He probably doesn't even own a computer.

And sure, it's the Internet. I get it. People mad. Sometimes, though, I still find it hilarious when it's over the dumbest things. "I was cool with Woody Harrelson until he was pissed like any other human being would be when someone asked something intrusive about his personal life and then understandably felt uncomfortable and defensive for the rest of the interview. It's 'Ask Me Anything', bro." What exactly were people expecting after that question? The rules of some feature on a website shouldn't remove common decency for other human beings, even if they are famous (again, got it: Internet). Granted, I'm only going by some throwaway article from E! -- so shame on me -- but what I'm saying is that there's so many more important dumb things to be mad about then Woody Boyd (an actor) wanting to promote his middling limited-release film that I have never heard of until now rather than discussing him (allegedly) fucking a child (???) to strangers. Boycotting a film you can't even find in theaters isn't exactly taking a stand, but whatever.

Who Jim Sterling?

You're not understanding the issue. People were pissed because they were asking totally normal questions for the AMA and "Woody" (I doubt it was actually him) kept deferring to the movie promotion. You're not understanding a lot of things. Look at it for yourself then stop talking to me:

Just when you thought internet folks couldn't get any shittier...Reddit.

Seriously, jumping down his throat and having little online hissy-fits because he won't answer random ass trolling and bullshit questions about his personal life? Christ...what a collection of shitty, whiny, childish people.

Oh how dare some fancy-pants celebrity come in and disrespect their sacred little corner of the internet where they've set up the equivalent of a mainstream 4chan they've been trying [too] hard to push further and further into popularity.

StormtrooprDaveon Feb. 11, 2012 at 3:47 a.m.

I already watched the film and it was rubbish.

emergencyon Feb. 11, 2012 at 3:59 a.m.

I'd just like to come in on the side of Reddit on this one since everyone here apparantely think its a total dump. I think it's pretty cool to hate on reddit/4chan any major site like this, because of their popularity 'its full of dicks'. But in actuality it's split up just like the rest of the internet with a bunch of idiots. Anyway, the concept of AMA's is to answer questions on a variety of things. If you would have seen some of the other previous AMA's with a lot of different famous people then you'd understand how one should be conducted. You don't have to answer all the questions, but that doesn't mean you outright don't answer anything that isn't just to publicize your movie. It's not cool to just use an AMA as an advertisement stream.

vinsanityv22on Feb. 11, 2012 at 4:55 a.m.

I think it's fucking crazy that Harrelson is supposed to be the bad guy because he didn't appease the inflated egos on Reddit. What the fuck do you expect from morons on that site who asked him about stuff like supposedly taking the virginity of a high schooler? Seriously? Fuck those guys. Reddit is an awful community; the Xbox Live of the internet...except they think they're far more important. It's amazing anyone participates in Ask Me Anything interviews for those losers.

Olivawon Feb. 11, 2012 at 5:38 a.m.

Reddit is full of lame nerds, but it's alright mostly.

4chan, on the other hand, is a rotting cesspool.

Dig Deeper into Rampart

Focusing on the notorious Rampart Scandal surrounding the LAPD in the late 90's, Rampart is the story of Dave Brown's (Woody Harrelson) transition from an outlaw cop into one of the most feared individuals on the streets of L.A.
